Well it looks like I going to put this on hold as I want something a little bigger such as a 17 or 18 foot possibly something bigger in all my idea size I would love to get would be a 21 foot Bass boat but that is going to be way out of my price range so I settle for something in the 18 foot range,I am just going to save the money I have now to go towards a bigger boat and try to put away a little money each month if I can do it.

My plans would to see if I can get enough money saved up before next summer to find what I want,so for the time being I going to use my little 14 foot aluminum boat with the Johnson 5.5hp ..by the way I want to Thank Cgrutt for the Johnson 5.5hp,I am also having the motor worked on,it did start up but the carburetor needs to have a really good thorough cleaning as it was pretty gummed and would not stay running up along with a good tune up such as plugs, wires etc..So once it is all done it should be in top running condition..

I could probably could get away with a 52 inch shaft but if I could get a 54 inch shaft that would be great as I could always adjust the length of the shaft

The wires are non changeable. Those are good to go as I checked those out myself. I knew it would start and I knew that the carb would need a good cleaning as it's been sitting awhile ...even before I got it. It won't take much to have that old 5.5 going Clarence. Run it and enjoy the time you get to go fishing in whatever boat you have. I went years with a 12' rowboat on the creek with a trolling motor. Then I got a 14' then a 16' ... now I have the boat I've posted a pic of before. I honestly wish I had another 12'-14' rowboat because I could leave it at a friends house and just shoot over quick and get it in the water and do some fishing. LOL I think what you stated above is a smart move. Save up and get what you truly need to fish those bigger lakes you talk about.

Sorry for such a late reply back to you CS,I been trying to do as much fishing as I can,I also been working on getting my little boat and trailer ready to start using soon hopefully,I still need to do some wiring and lighting on the trailer along with putting 2 new fenders on it but need to wait till next month to get the fenders..

I am not sure if I mentioned this to you but I found another boat this time it is a 16 ft with a trailer and a 30 hp Evinrude which is rated at 40 hp,It is a stick controlled motor,I love to have a steering wheel vs the stick but that is ok,I am buying the boat, trailer from the guy who is doing the tuneup on the Johnson 5.5 hp..He is going to paint the whole boat for me and also go through it to make sure it is running good for me,I have to get a couple seats for it but that is pretty much it..Oh he also going to do a little more modification for me on the bow of the boat,he is going to cut away some of it just so I can have a little more room up front he is going to brace the top with new aluminum c channel, there will still be a bow top but only enough to mount a bow mounted trolling motor that I hope to get sometime over next summer so I will just use the one I have now on it..

Here is a couple pictures of it..It may not look the best but after it is sanded down and repainted with marine Blue Paint the boat will look beautiful,He also going to paint the trailer and paint the motor also,.I have a lot I want to get done to this boat to make it the way I want..If you notice the Johnson 5.5 is also sitting on the back of the boat so he could work on it.Even I do not get the boat finish this year it will be ready for spring and summer time fishing,so I just use the little boat for the mean while,I just will not go out in the middle of the lake unless it is a calm day and also have to watch out for all those Canadian boaters as they would swamp me in my little boat at least down where I live..

You know CS as much as I wished I could own a real Bass boat like a Ranger,Skeeter even a Bass Tracker,I am going to be just as Happy with these 2 boats,I know I have to invest some money in to them but it is not like I am investing $25,000 to $35,000 or more in to one of those high dolor Bass Boats that.As it stands between the 2 boats I be lucky if I would even spend $2,000.00 to even $4,000.00 and that is on the high side I figure..

UMmmmm, am I missing something? That Starcraft looks to be a helluva lot more boat than the red/green/blue/black one for $1,500??? Starcraft seems like a good deal in the pic. That last one is a smooth water boat with little deadrise, so not so good in rough water. Just my $.02 Don't forget your PFD...
