I know plenty of people who were claiming that the mRNA vaccines were "gene therapy", and I was happy to use the term as a smear against them because I oppose mandating them for everyone. I didn't think they were actually gene therapies because they don't alter your actual genetic makeup.....as far as I know/knew. There are other experimental therapies that are actually supposed to rewrite your DNA to cure inherited genetic disorders and I thought those were the actual gene therapies.
It was (I thought) a bit of an intellectually dishonest argument from me, but I didn't make it very often and all's fair in social media arguments so whatever.
Now I find out that mRNA vaccines were indeed considered gene therapies by the medical community, but they changed the definition of "gene therapy" similarly to how they change the definition of "vaccine". Apparently before 2019 there are lots of examples of mRNA vaccines being called gene therapy by the medical community. Just learned this today.
