  • Bought a radar detector

    Yeah no it’s not prepping...

Cyber Monday got the best of me, lol. Ordered a Passport 9500ix. Haven’t had a radar detector or speeding ticket in 25 years but have been seeing more Leo along sides of road than I can remember. I’ve got nothing against cops in particular and am generally a 100% supporter but something about speed traps and a Revenue mentality just pisses me off lol. FUAC.

I think I asked about them here a couple years ago. Never got one though.

Guess I'm just a cranky old man who doesn't see the allure, just drive the damn speed limit and you don't have to worry about it. (flame on, b itches)
Beer is like porn, you can buy it but it's more fun to make your own

I have to bend over too far

        I get a boner.

bareback every couple of days, GTG. Bareback, brokeback, same $hit!

I joined a support group to help me deal with my social anxiety but I just can't seem to work up the nerve to go to a meeting......

I usually drive 75 in 65 and stick to the speed limit when it's 55 or below. It's more about the idea of knowing when the govt is tracking me (and everybody else) than avoiding a speeding ticket, which as I said haven't had one in about 25 yrs. If they can cast a wide net I'd like to know about it to react accordingly. Hey maybe me tapping the brakes will get the guy behind me doing 80 to avoid a ticket too. See that more karma lol...

Easier and cheaper to just assume that .gov is tracking you at all times (because they are).

I know you're all about karma but I draw the line at "saving the guy doing 80 a ticket". What gives that driver the right to take the safety of me and my family into his own hands by choosing to ignore the law and drive like an idiot? I see that crap almost everyday....some azzhole weaving through traffic at 20+ over the limit; the accident that he/she eventually causes is likely not going to involve them but instead some innocent that they cut off in traffic (let's hope it's not a fatality).

But I enjoy going fast. I've got the need for speed. That hasn't waned in my geriatric years.

Does it handle LIDAR/LADAR as well as Radar?

If I win the lotto, building a stealth car is on my list of things to do with my spare time and money. Laser detectors are fairly easy to defeat if you want to modify your car a bit. Radar detectors would take a bit more work, but I've got the composites experience to make a decent attempt at it. That would handle the passive countermeasures. I'd have to do some research on active countermeasures.

Yeah I hear you but don't agree somebody doing 80 is necessarily driving reckless or endangering anyone. In fact there are often people driving 20 mph under the speed limit that could arguably be driving more recklessly no? I'm not talking about the idiots driving too close or weaving in and out of lanes. 65 is an arbitrary limit set by govt just like 55 was after gas crisis. In fact parts of the country now have limits of 70, 75 or even higher. Some parts of Europe have no limits. Don't ever recall reading about mass casualties due to speed in those areas that allow higher limits than NY.

Driving fast does not make one inherently unsafe. I agree, the world is full of selfish and inattentive people on the road. What follows is a thought exercise based on your above comments...

All cops are "certified speed estimators". That means all they have to do is observe you. I do like the idea though... like the Japanese guys in Cannonball Run.

Under the limit types are waaaaayyyy more dangerous, agreed. As to the rest, people who speed are just a major pet peeve of mine. it seems most drivers have enough trouble just pulling out of their driveways safely, what with the phone call they are answering, the text they are writing, etc. And don't get me started on all the new safety features in cars designed to encourage this type of behavior (lane drift warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot warning, etc.)....what happened to keeping your eyes on the road and concentrating on good defensive driving? I'm also questioning the safety of these large touchscreens in the middle of the dash that require you taking your eyes off the road to adjust the radio or the heat, etc.

Like I said, I've become a cranky old man.

Answer: the AR-15 is an inherent god-given right enumerated within the Constitution, driving a car is a privilege.
