I have a nice 14 foot fishing kayak with paddle, Heritage Angler, has two built in Rod holders.
The long they are the better they track, better glide, may or may not be better in the wind and are easier to paddle. I'm selling because I bought Hornbeck solo canoes, 18 lbs @ 12 foot long.I must say I love beavers.

You can get them, but they're not necessary. When tieing the boat on, just make sure the ropes/ratchets are as close to the gunnels as possible. That'll hold the boat steady, and it won't move. That's how we always tied canoes to the trailer in scouts.
I will say, these are awesome for securing the bow and stern. http://www.amazon.com/Malone-Sentry-...CZ1PAH8JCRPZN5Old enough to know better, still too young to care

That's why you tie it down with the straps/rope up against the gunnels. It locks it right down and it won't move.Old enough to know better, still too young to care
