  • CNY camping trip details and date

Discard the the other thread, here are the details (xpost from nyf.com):

DATE: FRIDAY AUGUST 7th @5pm till Monday AUGUST 10th MORNING

WHERE: 3949 State RT 34B, Scipio NY 13147 (see picture below for specific location as this address is across the road from the farm land we are camping on)

WHO: Anyone 18+ who belongs to either NYF.com or NYShens.com (18+ by request from other members)

    FAQS:

    1. Campers? Yes, just go slow we should be ok to have one or 2 of these if you want to bring a camper.
    2. Tannerite? No, I asked they are uncomfortable with that. Might be possible in the future, but since this is the first time it's a no.
    3. Hammock friendly? Yes very hammock friendly.
    4. Tent friendly? Of course.
    5. Bugs? Yeah, plan for this there is a stream nearby and the mosquitos are out in force right now.
    6. Toilet? No, you are either squatin in the woods or you are welcome to bring a lugable loo or I suppose if you wanted to you could drive 20 mins into Auburn to use a public one lol.
    7. Can you bring guns? Yes absolutely bring whatever you want that is legal in NYS.
    8. Clays? Yep if you want.
    9. Long range? Depends if the field has been cut or not, min 100 yards though. If the field is cut, quite a bit further.
    10. Steel targets? Yup, but whatever you shoot needs to be carried out with you. Brass bigger than 22lr needs to be pickup up as well.
    11. Tables? No, there are none. You can bring one or we can try to share what people bring. I will have 2 folding tables and a screened in tent thingy.
    12. Bring my dog? Yep, your responsibility though.
    13. Beer? Yep, just don't become a problem.
    14. Chainsaws? Yes, deadfall only.
    15. Sleep in your truck? Of course.
    16. How remote is it? Well not very, you will have cell service and we are less than a mile off of 34B.
    17. Will we be disturbed? Well we are camping behind a farm, farmers start work pretty early. If they are cutting the field we could be awakened to the sound of harvesters or other farm machinery if it is harvest time.
    18. Are there shooting benches? No there is nothing to help you shoot, bring whatever you need to make your shooting experience enjoyable (paper targets, rests, tables etc...)

RULES (these are pretty common sense, but I'll go ahead and post it so there is no question of what is expected):

    1. This is 18+ only by member request.
    2. We are welcome to shoot right were we are camping, bring any firearm you like. There is room for trap shooting as well if you have stuff for that. Should be good out to at least 300 yards. NO SHOOTING IN THE DIRECTION OF THE BARN/34B EVER PERIOD OR ANY OTHER VISIBLE STRUCTURE.
    3. Shooting needs to be restricted to the hours of 10am-7pm. This is out of respect for my family. Usually this is camp fire hang out time anyhow in the evening.
    4. Drink if you want and as much as you want, just don't become a problem.
    5. Clean up after yourself, if it wasn't there when you arrived it needs to be gone when you leave. Of course I will be cleaning up after the group but don't make this a difficult task for me and my little car. I don't care about 22 casings, but anything else also needs to be picked up.
    6. You can bring any target you like including steel targets. They just have to be gone when we are done. This is not a range though, there are no target holders or benches. Bring anything you need to make your shooting enjoyable.
    7. There are no pick nick tables or chairs or tables. I will be bringing a folding camp table and a chair to use for myself and I am willing to share the space on the table but please plan according to your needs.
    8. If you wouldn't want it done to you, don't do it to your fellow campers.
    9. Please be courteous if any of my family comes up to say hello. My grandfather and 2 of my uncles work the farm (granfathers name is Nelson, uncles are Tim and Dan). Please thank them for letting us do this if they do come up to say hello (and being farmers, they probably will).
    10. If you have a chainsaw, by all means bring it if you like. Please only cut deadfall for burning.
    11. There are no facilities or toilets available. Plan for that as well.
    12. 4 legged companions are also welcome.

Pretty much guys, if we do this and like the experience and don't become a problem we are likely to be able to do it again. So pretty much fallow common sense here.

I have the weekend off. I'll be there as long as the weather and my vehicle cooperates.

Hey gents, could you let me know if you RSVP'd here only? Trying to get the actual list together since we are so close. So far only 5 (myself included) signed up on NYF and I have a feeling there are people that only RSVP'd here.

I don't know how I missed this post, but I might be able to get out there for the 2nd half of the weekend. I won't know for certain for a few more days. Can a subcompact car make it down that farm road, or is it too rough? I don't want to get it stuck out there, which is why I'm asking.

He said a car should be fine going very slowly.
I guess that also depends on the weather.

I'm only rolling out in a tiny little Honda civic. It's more about bottoming out that it is getting stuck.

The only problem that could be an issue is if it absolutly pounded with rain, that could create a mess. Worst case scenario I go snag a tractor and drag ya out. lol

LOL, my car's small enough that it would fit in a large bucket! LOL

I need to rig up a target stand to hold some paper targets to shoot my Mosin Nagant and my FNAR .308, as I don't have anything built yet. I'm thinking of getting one of those self-healing plastic gong's that are about 15"-18" in diameter as well. It would be cool to have a target that would give immediate visual indication of a hit (without the weight and expense of a AR500 Steel Gong). It would also be very fun to set it up at 200 Yard (or further) ranges as it's been a while since I've shot the rifles! I need to practice some prone shooting with the FNAR as well if the terrain allows it.

It would also be sweet to do some drawing from concealed drills with my pistols as all the ranges in WNY don't allow it due to their insurance regs.

Does anyone already have a PVC style portable stand that can hold cardboard backers with paper targets taped to them? If not, maybe I need to get to the hardware store and get assembling!

LTL, skip the "self healing" gong. The problem is that the bullet whizzes right through it without barely moving it (if at all), you can't tell whether you hit it of not until you walk up and inspect it! (One exception: 12 gauge slugs will set it swinging) As to ranges that let you draw from concealed: join up at ORGC....we can draw from concealed, set up your own run and gun course, all kinds of things that the other fun nazis frown upon at their ranges. You also need to come out to GCL for the concealed carry shoot on Tuesday nights....nothing BUT drawing from concealed is allowed. PM me if you want more info or want to get out to ORGC some time.

Well, lol my point was if you get stuck we have a way of getting you unstuck pretty easily.

Anyway I'm gonna see if I can get up there and mow as things have gotten pretty grown in at this point. Gonna see if I can grade the road as well so it's not so crazy bumpy going back. Also got to figure out how parking is going to work and if they are going to be harvesting or not (which will suck a little to be honest, but all well).

Good point about mowing now, gives the cut grass time to dry so it doesn't stick to everything. Going to try to make it, even if for the day, evening or overnight, no promises but being close to Auburn means Bass Pro. I'd bring my tractor to use the bucket with forks and a 3x6 work platform for a raised shooting platform but too far to drive it. A box blade with shank teeth would do a decent job on the road if you had the rain we did yesterday.
Anyone bringing an old lady, cause if she goes, I ain't sharing.

Is the above listed address South of Auburn New York, and it's on the West Side of Owasco lake? Google's giving me two different addresses to choose form when I plug it into Google Maps.

Also confirming that I'll be there on Sunday (around Noonish) and camping overnight into Monday in my Hammock. I get out of work at 05:30 Sunday morning >_<, so I'll grab a few hours of sleep before I head out there).

I'll be brining my Mosin Nagant and F&H FNAR .308 Heavy for some pew pew action. I have a folding plastic table and chair that I'm brining along to keep stuff off of the ground (mainly my butt... LOL). I still need to rig up a target stand fast to bring with me so I can shoot from 100-300ish yards. Trying to rig up something light and cheap that the wind won't blow over/away.

I'll be sleeping in my Hennessy Hammock with my Kick Ass Quilts Top and Bottom Quilt if anyone wants to see it in action. I'll most likely setup my hammock at least 50 feet away from everyone else as I saw the wood quite loud when I'm snoozing!

If time/space permits, I'll bring along some of my solar stuff so people can see that in action as well. At a minimum I'll have my 40 watt folding solar panel, 13Ah Portable USB Battery, and 36Ah Blue Lunchbox Battery to recharge anyone's electronic gadgets.

BONUS! We'll have the opportunity to watch some TV shows or Movies on my pocket sized LED Projector and Tyvek Screen. I'll have it loaded up with stuff to watch. The projector and tyvek screen weigh less than 12 ounces, but provide up to a respectable 80-Inch image in darkness. When the SHTF, I'll be the only Hammock Camper watching shows like a Drive-In Movie Theater! LOL

*EDIT* Everyone hit your clothing and fabrics with Promethrin now so it's ready for the woods this weekend! Don't forget the Bug Repellant, Long Sleeve Shirts, and possible Head Bug Net!

Was planning on attending but got word this week that my daughter and son in law are closing on the new (to them) house and we are now part of the official moving in party. Was going to come on bike as well which sucks cause I wanted to try out my new load plan and actually stay over somewhere.
If you ever have a problem with geese being where you live, count me in as a volunteer slayer as the last time we were out there we were shut out, geese north and south of us but not over us. Quite frankly don't think the guides did a good job with the set ups.
