Growing pains...

Perhaps "mischief" and "mayhem" mean different things to different people. But I kinda agree, some of the humor toward our female membership is starting to cross the line.

I agree. I am guilty of some mischief and mayhem myself too but also had not great success getting traction in firearms related subjects but not sure that is the desired focus nor we have enough enthusiasts in firearms performance.With all that said the few folks here contribute more than the herds on the other side lost in their typical politics and basement dwelling. Once they had the traffic but they let that decay and rot away.
I think the key is to build the traffic and opportunity and to specialize a little and focus on something. Everything else is secondary and will not help funding and running the forum. Hopefully we can get some direction to be able to be more helpful. I am willing to help in any way I can.
I personally also enjoy all the great threads we have about camping, survival, BOB, radios, etc...

I agree with everyone here because it all kind of fits in one way or another. Mischief and Mayhem ..... WE GOT THAT!! Guns and many other topics ..... WE GOT THAT TOO!! I think that if something is posted in the Shoot the Chit area .... it's going to be just that. The thing I like best about this forum is that the politics in every thread is non existent. The in fighting ..... not here. Alittle disagreement ..... sure. That's going to happen anywhere. I know if I had a business and was looking to advertise, I'd be more concerned with traffic on the site more so than the topics in one certain area. I know for a fact we have many here that enjoy hunting and camping and fishing and the like. I also know that once I get some free time, hopefully this weekend, I'll be on here more and I'll be helping Tim get some fishing equipment sales up and running on here. He has all kinds of top notch stuff and some is overstock. I know this will become one of the greatest all around forums in NYS. It's already off to a great start. Yes ... many of us have known each other for over a year and we've developed a nice little community. I will also do my part in promoting this site with decals on the truck, the bass boat and my ass. (It's flat so it's the perfect surface for a decal) I see where you're coming from C. I'm not reading too much into what you posted but I also understand where you're coming from. With the help of the members here, we'll make this one hell of a great place to relax, have some fun, talk about guns and hunting and fishing and survival topics as well. Growing pains it is but we already have some serious knowledge to offer and receive from many great members. We have the mad gunsmith Meketrefeefefeefffeeeeffe here offering his expertise. We have usmc here to perform a public stoning upon. I'm here to ..... well I'm not sure what the hell I'm here to offer, but I can maybe offer some advice on something .... maybe .... kinda .... sorta .... not really ..... probably not. We have Saratoga Tackle and Archery and other vendors here that would jump in to help out with questions and such. Every member here has something to offer and they do. So we tend to experience a sugar high once in awhile ... it happens. You tell us mods what you'd like and we'll make sure you get what you want .... to a point that is. LOL

This forum has ALOT to offer .... I wouldn't worry too much. We can tame it down or make sure it stays in the appropriate part of the forum. That is something that needs to be done just to keep it sort of tidy in here. I know I haven't been on much in the last few days as I've been buried in work and today is no different, but this thread I thought I should put in my two cents on. Well .... back to the chicken coop to do the manly thing of listen to talk radio, work on crap, get frustrated when something doesn't go as it should, throw wrenches, say every swear word known to man and part of the universe and even a combination of swear words I can think of and even make up my own!! I'm a bad bad chicken!! LOL Everyone have fun. I'll be back on here more often soon!! (Let that be a warning!!)

Everybody is learning one way or another. Learning something something useful is the ultimate value.I find myself going back to some other forums and blogs just because of all the good information they have for learning and maturing. I think the key is how we help the forum owners increase the traffic. I have some ideas.. with focus, the rest will come.
Regarding your doubts all we need is interested folks and keep it simple, like why don't we write something as simple as sighting or scoping a rifle. 80% of the folks I meet at the range have this setup wrong so how do one does this right? This is something simple and practical.
Pretty much like the machinist section is not to start talking about CNC and impossible designs but something like the DIY sights tool that anyone can do with a drill and a tap.
Again the key is to increase the traffic massively but for that one also needs to be ready. I have a few formulas but I doubt the shared software instances and bandwith can take the traffic w/o major disruptions. I have seen this many times. Another objective must be how to retain the leads and translate that into regulars and opportunity. IMO the mischief and mayhem have to take back sit while keeping things fun, I mean "healthy" fun. Shooting and firearms cannot be secondary if ones sponsors come from that sector. But I am just another member putting some ideas on the table. What is important is what the owners of the forum want to achieve. Whatever it is, I will try to help no matter what.

I echo what 24 said. I love what you post, but it's so far over my head, I don't know what to say to it.

I'm essentially a complete newb when it comes to guns, other than I know what direction to point them, and they go bang when you pull the trigger.

If you are a newb to guns you are the perfect member for many forums. Always willing ot learn and to grow. In fact everyone should approach the online like
that with a mind to take away as much as you can and of course have some fun too. The problem in some forums is when we start to see too many "experts"
sometimes experts at everything but masters at nothing. I think this is where the moderation and administration is critical.
But experts are good too as soon we do not have "1000 experts" at politics, religion and police critics on a forum with a firearms domain name on it. LOL

Could you guys give me an example of a thread or area where you were reading but felt could not contribute due to complexity?
I think we can explain things if they are interesting to people. If we want to learn and share I am happy to develop and find easier explanations in
the areas I can contribute.

A clear example or two would be very helpful.
