Barrel Question

Sabot slugs are made for rifled barrels.

Shooting Foster type slugs from a rifled barrel will leave lead in the bore and you'll have fun cleaning it out.

Do not shoot without choke tube installed or you'll have fun cleaning lead out of choke tube threads.

Yeah but most people don't have a 50 yrd shot in their homes for SD shotgun. Slug usage in home are prone to over-penetration.

00 buck for the bad guy at the top of the stairs, 50yd slug shot for the next Boston bomber that's hiding out in my neighbor's back yard.

Alternate 00 buck and slugs. Or do 2-1 or something to that effect. That way if the 00 doesn't stop them, the 12ga slug will leave a nice parting gift for them.

I wish I had the video of what a 12ga slug will do to a pool. I'm going to have to ask my parents to send that to me some time. It was awesome. A 12ga hole is no joke.

I like the action on the Benelli M4 because it doesn't drop a round on the shell carrier unless the gun is fired. So this allows you to eject a chambered round of say buck shot and replace it with a slug (or whatever you need) whenever you need it. I keep seven rounds of buck shot loaded in my HD shotgun with three extra rounds of buck and three slugs on a side mounted shell carrier. Another cool feature of the Benelli is that you can ghost load a round on the shell carrier. This effectively increases capacity to 9 rounds - 1 in the chamber, 1 on the carrier and 7 in the tube, which FWIW is perfectly legal under current NY law. I only keep seven rounds in the gun for personal reasons involving a household with small kids but could up that by two if I wanted to. I believe the Benelli M2 and Mossberg 930 have similar actions.
