so i have a friend that finally is thinking about his first gun. really my only friend at this point in my life that doesn't already have a gun safe with a few
he isn't planning on getting his pistol permit any time soon.
anyway, he asked the usual "what gun should I get?" and naturally everyone said in unison: "get a shotgun for your first gun"
but i got thinking about it, i don't know if I really agree with this anymore. don't get me wrong, i love shotguns and think every able body adult should have one.
BUT, the more I think about it, i think if you are only going to have one gun and you aren't planning to hunt, i'd think something like an AR would be the way to go. doesn't have to be semi-auto if they are trying to save some money but still.
a relatively cheap caliber, serviceable, mag fed, can add optics, light and sling. fun to take to the range, not too expensive to plink with, can defend your house and the country. What says the congregation?
i used to preach .22LR for first gun because they are just fun at the range for the whole family, but they are too one dimensional IMHO if they aren't going to buy another gun.
the last couple family members i have that didn't have guns got their first guns in the last few years. both bought shotguns first but both bought semi-auto 223's pretty soon after.
