  • Apex Tactical Trigger Upgrade

After a lot of himming and hawing, I finally installed the Apex Tactical carry kit for my EDC, and M&P Shield 9. It was relatively simple, but I was hesitant on doing it myself for a while. Trigger work makes me nervous, and the last thing that I wanted was to become the subject of a kitchen gunsmith story that boogered up a trigger install.

The kit included a new aluminum trigger assembly, along with a new striker block and fully machined sear and spring kit. The difference is night and day compared to the factory setup. It breaks much cleaner and more consistent. The reset is also a lot more consistent.

Range day showed excellent results. This is my first 15 round group from 5 yards. The one that's high and wide was the very first shot. I admittedly closed my eyes and looked away just in case. LOL.

Just for comparison sake, here's the same distance in May of 2014.

Nice! FWIW, personally I wouldn't modify an EDC God forbid you need to use it in a self defense scenario. Why give the prosecutor in an unfriendly state more ammo? I know opinions vary on this but it is what it is. Looks like an awesome shooter!

Yeah, I've considered that debate at times before too. I'm not overly concerned with add ons that increase functionality. I've also added Talon rubberized grips and TruGlo TFX night sights. (Which I LOVE) This kit doesn't really standout as an add on, the only external difference to be seen is the trigger assembly itself. And even that doesn't really jump out at you.

Now if someone added some Zombie Killer decal grips or a Molon Labe engraving to an EDC, then I could see a DA getting his jollies off trying to stick it to you.

Bought a Ruger LC9. Liked the gun, hated the trigger. Put a GP Precision upgrade and now like the trigger. Haven't carried it since though.... Just my mindset is all.

Great job, don't be afraid to tear into something the first time, do your research, have a manual or instructions handy and take pictures if necessary and if not sure, don't modify stuff if your not sure, use a sacrificial part first.
I must say I love beavers.
