So about to get concealed carry permit, have had to wait 5 years because I live in Genesee county have had a restricted permit, and looking for a single stack 9mm for concealed carry. I fullsized 40 cal glocks and love them but just to cumbersome for some carry situations. Thanks for any real world experience you have to offer!

Hey Rufus, first off welcome to the site, I saw you signed up a while back and wasn't sure what to make of it.
I'm a pretty big fan boy of Glock G23. I own two of them and that is my gun of choice for training classes but I also agree with the too big and glunky to carry. Went through a few small 9mm single stacks. Ruger LC9 -- nice gun hated the trigger. Upgraded trigger group, spring and guide rod to GP Precision but still not making the cut for everyday carry. Also have a G26. Not Single stack. Great gun but if you're going to carry it might as well carry the 23, lol. Settled in on a SIG P938. Awesome little gun. 1911-like controls so you've got to train with it if you're used to Glocks but definitely a contender.
Also bought a G42 for the hell of it. Fun to shoot but will never make it to my carry rotation just due to caliber alone.
Good luck.

First off welcome!
Now to answer your question.... I do not have first hand experience but I would highly recommend the Sig P938. I currently own the Sig P238 which is the smaller .380 version and I love it. I know Cgrutt has the P938 and I am sure he will stop in and give it high praise.
Here is a link to an online review as well http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/201...ig-sauer-p938/.

Been carrying M&P Shield 9 for almost a year now. I bought it specifically for summer carry as it conceals very well under minimal cover garments, but I like it so much and it was so comfortable in a N82 Tactical Pro IWB that I never switched back to my G19 for winter time carry.Sticky Lips at High Noon!

Welcome to NYSG.
Awesome, reliable, affordable single stack in 9mm? Springfield XDS! I've got over 2500 rounds through mine without one single hiccup (knock on wood). Love it.Beer is like porn, you can buy it but it's more fun to make your own

I think the Springfield XDS would be more of what your looking for then.
Also as an FYI the Colt Mustang magazines also work in the Sig P238.www.AvidArms.com I'm STIHL out of conditioner!!

Not sure about the mustang but isn't that like a PPK?
Personally, I think the Glock is the single best defensive handgun on the planet. Not pretty, not perfect, but functional and reliable in most conditions. I own two 23s a 19, 26, 32c, and 42. But they are big and glunky.
I've been carrying a Sig 938 as of late but still question why I'm not carrying the Glock.
Something to be said about Keep It Simple Stupid....
Not sure if this is helping or not, lol...

The Sig P938 is based off the Sig P238 just built up more for 9mm. The Sig P238 is essentially a Colt Mustang and Sig bought the rights too it an really only change some of the stylings to make it its own.

This +1
I've had an XD Service (4") in 45 ACP (should have kept it) and now carry an XD subcompact in 9 milli. They are (were) both great pistols with only one malfunction between them, and that was a bad reload.
I find the XD series to be much more ergonomic than Glocks (the Glock 30 feels like you're holding a potato). Had a Glock 36 (45 ACP) that was single stack, but it was a handful to control.
I carry in an IWB all the time - even the XD Service. For a smaller pistol the Comp-Tac CTAC is a very good holster. For appendix (2 o'clock) carry Comp-Tac makes a nice IWB, also.Corruptissima re publica plurimae leges - Cornelius Tacitus

I guess I forgot about the xds in 9mm! That's what I love about this forum! That's definitely a solid option.
I love my shield for this role (after I replaced the original mag release that rusted)
But there are some good options out there and the new g43 will be an option eventually too.
