S&W Model 29-2 44 magnum

I am having issues shooting my S&W Model 29-3 44 magnum everytime I shoot it bare handed it pinches my trigger finger every time,I had mentioned this over at NYF and I some of the guys who have signed up here try to help me,one of the guys who did help me by sending me some money to buy a new grip and it was RayKnob

So I did try the new grip on the 44 magnum and I am still having the same issues with it hurting my hand,I am still ok as long as I am wearing a glove on my right hand,so I not sure what I can do next maybe I should sell it,

Now when I had a S&W 44 magnum about 20 years ago I did not have this issue I think it was because the one I had before had a 8 inch barrel and this one I am pretty sure the barrel is only 6 inches long, so I amt thinking back then when I had the longer barrel it tamed down the recoil since it was 2 inches longer then the one I have now,I want to try some 44 specials in it but everyone around here wants about $53.00 a box counting tax for a box of 50 rounds that is what they told me they would cost to get and even at that price no one has any available unless I would order some..

Also would the 44 specials make that much of a difference they have the same grain bullet head as a 44 magnum,I think it is just a little less powder if I am not mistaken..

Why the hell would 44 specials be more expensive then 44 magnums?

Yes it is my right trigger finger I post a picture of my gun with the new grip on it.

Ok I understand the first picture but the second one I am just a little confused where you want me to place my finger?

I will try my best to get these pictures since I have to do the camera with one hand and one holding the gun,lol unless I can get the landlord to help me or get my brother as I am not on very good talking terms with the landlord right now ever since Thanksgiving day..

I see what I am pretty sure I get my brother to do this for me.

If you can set your camera in right spot you should be able to use the timer function on camera to take it automatically.

For second photo the point is to see where your finger is when you pull trigger naturally and keep trigger to the rear. At the risk of ruining the natural results I am wondering if your finger is at bottom of trigger, Then with the recoil your finger is getting pinched between the trigger and trigger guard. If that is the case then pull trigger higher up and that should solve it.

That said I have not ever shot a revolver or own one and did not read the thread on NYF your talking about but think that is why your finger is getting pinched without seeing you shoot.

So without thinking try and dry fire naturally and let me know where your finger is on the trigger?

Also remember with any firearm when you squeeze trigger you want to keep trigger to rear while you fire. After a second or two you slowly release until you hear/feel click of reset and then repeat.

The one thing I do with any of my revolvers is I always cock the hammer first to fire,I usualy never fire any my revolver with out cocking them first as I am using it for target shooting every, when I tried to shoot it with out cocking I tend to pull the trigger to hard and it makes me pull to the right every time causing me not to hit the target dead center..

I will try my best to get the pictures for you,I think the best way I can tell you what part of my finger gets pinch is this. if your looking at your trigger finger from the tip of my finger it would be the backside of my 2nd knuckle in the crease that is getting pinched every time..When I am ready to shoot my pistol or any gun to that matter I always using the first part of my finger tip and when I fire it is like my finger slips or slides down the trigger and that is when it get pinched on the 2nd knuckle crease..

I am hoping I am making sense and you understand what I am saying,again I always use the tip of my finger not the very tip more the center part when I shoot and after I shoot it is just like my whole finger slides down the trigger and that is where it is getting pinched on the 2nd knuckle on the back side in the crease..

I understand what you are saying, I actually just made a new thread which should help you somewhat.

Do this for me..... Make your firing hand a fist with your trigger finger extended. Now take your non firing hand and use that thumb to simulate your trigger. When simulating what your saying happens your trigger finger should make a curling motion and even causing your hand to move in direction of palm. Are you a lefty?
Try doing the simulation again of pulling trigger and this time try keep 2nd joint the only one to bend and it should make it so your hand does not rotate, That is why if you read other thread I started on shooting pistol I find it best to use 20% pressure on grip using firing hand and 80% on non firing hand because it helps prevent you from redirecting barrel unintentionally.

Also no matter what you do if you ensure you keep trigger to rear after you fire until after everything is done then you shouldn't really get finger pinched.

Ok thank You,you know what is weird is I have a Taurus GP100 357 magnum which is similar to the S&W 44 and I have know issues firing it so hopefully it is just a problem where maybe I just holding the 44 wrong..

Do you make sure to hold trigger to rear after firing or do you not even think about it?

To be honest I am not sure,I think I do but it is possible I not holding the trigger long enough to the rear,I will have to check it out the next time I am at the range which I hoping I be able to go this week..I am counting on going around Friday depending on the weather..

When you go next hold it to rear until "the dust has settled" . also if you go with brother have him video tape your hands as you fire since they will be invaluable to troubleshooting your issue.

Seeing is always best, and it can be tough to self diagnose your own issues .

Another trick is to randomly load live rounds and snap caps, it makes you focus on basics and not anticipating recoil. I might just make short video with easg drills to fix different issues.

Are you centered in the pad o or more toward the knuckle? And the Pachmyer Presentstion grip really isn't much different that the wood, try a Hogue
