So, I'm enjoying the free state of KY this week. My cousin took me up to her place, way back in a holler where she and her husband own @ 50 acres surrounding their home. She knows I came to shoot so she started digging around to find some guns. The cavalier attitude towards firearms around here blows my mind: "I know there's a 40 around here, it was in my son's room but the case is empty, let me call him"...."He says it's in his truck but that it's OK because they're off from school this week so we'll take a look at what is in the safe" (he's 17 years old!) The kid's 20 year old friend sold him the pistol when he was 16! (my mind is blown). "I had a 9mm but I'm not sure where I left it."

Any, we grab a 22 Buckmark and head up the hill behind the house. My other cousin Becky (Rachel's sister) lives across the road and came up to say hi. She calls her husband and tells him to come up and bring some guns so her cousins from NY can shoot. Mike shows up with.....a S&W 460 Mag, 12" ported barrel and a nice piece of glass mounted on it. So, I got to cross off "shoot a 460 Magnum wheel gun" from my gun bucket list. I must say, it was quite controllable and fun to shoot, no muzzle flip, just a very strong straight back push (like a 45ACP on steroids.

Next up I ran a few standard capacity mags through his Baretta 92 (another gun I have been wanting to try...now I gotta get one). The Baretta is a really nice shooting gun.

Finally capped the afternoon with another one on my gun bucket list, the 338 Win Mag. The only downside to freedom is that sometimes you have to shed a little blood.

338 WinMag vs S&W 460 Magnum (that pistol round if freaking huge)

I joined a support group to help me deal with my social anxiety but I just can't seem to work up the nerve to go to a meeting......

The 338 extracted it's revenge: (just another reason to love irons)

I did get scoped. I was using an iron rake as a shooting stick and the rig shifted on the recoil and caught me there. ('m a lefty too, remember?)

Surprised to hear the pistol didn't rise much. The .338 case really puts things in perspective.

Just out of curiosity, was the 92 an FS or SB?

I don't know, what's the difference? It was an older model, Italian made.

Just kissed it enough to split the skin, would have left an ugly bruise if i had bought the full force of the recoil through the scope.

                "Here's yur sign!"

I'm more impressed with shooting that hand cannon. I've always kind of giggled at those huge caliber revolvers because they look more like a cartoon caricature of a gun than an actual firearm. I gotta admit, the first shot had me pretty nervous but it was all giggles after that. I don't want to think about how much it costs to feed one of those things, that's why I was polite and stopped after dumping one full cylinder. The owner offered to let me keep shooting but I couldn't burn his $$ up like that in all good consciousness. (he doesn't reload and we were shooting Hornaday hunting loads)

The SB model was the original version that Beretta submitted to compete for the air force (?) contract. The front strap is straight and the trigger guard is rounded. The finish is also a nicer mix of blued steel and anodized alloy. I'm pretty sure they also come stock with wooden grips. SB models aren't nearly as common, but I'm not sure they're worth a whole lot more than the FS version.

The FS version has an angle change towards the bottom of the front strap and the front of the front of the trigger guard is kind of squared off. I believe functionally they're the same pistol.

I had a close call with shooting a friends super Blackhawk with home brew hot 44 magnum reloads, shot it single hand and just put on the breaks before it knocked on my forehead. Got scoped shooting at a deer with a muzzleloader, extremely cold, too many layers of clothing and gloves prevented a proper grip on the weapon along with a poor shoulder position of an awkward shooting position. No stitches required, no venison on the spit, LOL
                          I'm confused!!!!!
