  • This could be a fun Mosin project for a mammoth hunter.

I have been entertaining the idea to buy a couple of those cheap mosins to convert them into light and comfortable 18" carbines chambered in 444 marlin and/or 45/70 in case we need to go mammoth hunting in the woods.
This is really a no brainer as the popular platform lends itself to be easily converted to other rimmed calibers.

This project is what inspired me to do something similar....

    http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2...gant-to-45-70/

I think that there are guns that are nice to shoot and others that are a lot of fun to shoot. These will be in the a lot of fun as I am finding myself enjoying the 357 gunner A LOT!
I think this will be equally satisfying. There is something about re-purposing a classic into a carbine/scout with a Bad Azz round sending a 300 to 500 grain mail downrange...
don't know what it is... In a pePeshiltata hit the fan situation we can kill 20 zombies in a row with these rounds. lol
I like the idea of the 444 marlin because it will share some of the popular bullets with my 44 magnum.

This guy did a nice job with the scout idea....

So now I need to find some cheap russians and make it happen.
It is a shame when people demanding tolerance, have no tolerance

Look for Bubba'd rifles (of course Bubba thinks his abortions are worth more than a decent collector specimen). Not sure if you've looked around lately but the $99 Mosins of a year or two ago are long gone. Garden variety '43 91/30's are starting at @ $175 (when you can find them). It seems the Mosins are fast headed the same place that the SKS's went, and the M1's before then, and the.....

Point being, there is no longer a surplus of "those cheap rifles that the Russians made a billion of". Also consider the current Administration's ban on Russian imports and you can see that these guns have now become true collector's items. If you do find a supply of cheap 91/30's, buy them up and sit on them (don't hack them up)....they increasing in value by the day.
Beer is like porn, you can buy it but it's more fun to make your own

I have to bend over too far

    I get a boner.

bareback every couple of days, GTG. Bareback, brokeback, same $hit!

I joined a support group to help me deal with my social anxiety but I just can't seem to work up the nerve to go to a meeting......

Gunsmithing when done right can be also an art and not just a mechanical fix or adaptation
I was thinking get a few and leave the best ones as collection and then convert a couple of them.
They are collection but also they are cheaply made. So it might end up with a superior firearm in some of them all screwed up.
I think a firearm might be seen as butchered or not depending on what type of conversion it is. There are conversions that respect the original spirit of the gun.
I guess it depends on what make, year, model... I would definitely would not touch a good one.
Again I am not an expert.

Have you seen those "sniper" setups with the black plastic archangel stocks and raiser mounts and huge brakes? lol...

I like something that looks and feels like the original or a nice scout with all the original wood...
There are some crazy folks in south africa who are using these to pop the largest animals and the rifles must be rechambered
to the minimum caliber that is .375 like some of the medium rimmed magnums.

And the Swedish used to pop elephants with their 6.5 very efficiently until some experts came along and said ... you cannot do that.

in any case when one of those freight trains charges at you you better have the grain and the speed to go deep and hard.

I always though the super exclusive SxS double barrel bolt action beats any other one in case one cannot finish the job with two rounds...

Or this perhaps... either one all the entire firing group is completely independent.

Bought my first one there in 2013 for $99, it's a decent shooter. If you catch them when they're slow they might pick through a few and find you the best one. I think they're getting @ $200 for them these days.

Thanks T. I will check it out. I have to find a place that has CO2 for the bb gun so I can pop a few chipmunks in the yard that are destroying everything.
American sniper part 2 ... BB gun version.
