I'm glad I was wrong about this.

That said, regarding comments on the Firing Pin FB page: I find it amusing that even though we're all on the same team, fighting the same war, for the same end goal, if I voice an opinion regarding the approach to a specific battle that is not in lockstep with the approach held by the majority.......I'm a Fudd and an *******. No discourse or discussion, just FU dude. Sounds a lot like the progressives, doesn't it?

Were you wrong? I thought you were right.

As far as everyone who's supposed to be on the same team immediately dog-piling on a different opinion, does the left have that problem too?

It seems that not trusting the people on your own team seems to be a big problem on the 'right'. (Not sure if 'right' is the correct descriptor here.) Libertarians are notorious for fighting among themselves about who meets whatever purity tests it takes to be a 'true libertarian'. We were reading all kinds of articles in gun blogs and gun news sites talking about how gun owners were walking into a trap Monday and some even suggesting people not go. Part of that was believing our opponents are more determined than we are. But, a big part of it was also gun owners believing other gun owners can't be trusted to be smart about things. Now that the event went well all the big 2A pundits seem to have forgotten how negative they were a few days ago and nobody is mentioning how they might have suppressed turnout.

We've all got a general lack of faith in our fellow citizens. I'm not sure how much that's media programming and the effects of social media or what the deal is. I'm definitely not immune to it.

Regarding the VA rally, I was merely respecting the request of the folks that organized it and have been running it for years.

Direct from the VCDL web site FAQ's for the rally:

      Long Guns

If you are asking how you can help with VCDL's mission, carrying long guns at Lobby Day is not helpful - it is a distraction. VCDL's important messages inevitably get lost as the press rushes to get pictures of anyone carrying an AR or AK. The stories then become about the rifle, not VCDL's agenda. You can set your watch by it. Long guns are not easy to carry in a crowd, either. VCDL needs its voice heard loud and clear in order to able to stop the onslaught of gun-control bills.

I fall into the "just because you can, doesn't mean you should, camp. I really think that optics is a very important thing, and a rally of this magnitude, getting the amount of national coverage that it did, showing up in battle rattle wasn't the right move. It allows the MSM to further paint the picture that 2A supporters are "lunatics" and over the top, further alienating, and dividing the conversation. Proper dress, making gun owners and supporters look like normal people (yes, that's a rather ambiguous term) is important, and walking around like a lot of the supporters did, like the Firing Pin guy, didn't help.

Did it hurt? At the same time, it probably didn't, but it certainly didn't help, either.

It was his right to do it, but like I said, just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

I'm pretty sure they'd do that no matter what.

I'm torn on this. My usual MO is to try to get people to like me and rationally persuade them on any given topic. But, it seems like the definition of insanity. Especially with gun politics.

If we can't convince them we're not crazy. Why not embrace it and make them say "let's not piss off the crazy guys with guns."

This is exactly why Antifa, Mom's, and the regular assortment of other rabble-rousers and anti-gun folks stayed away: They KNEW they would be outnumbered but more importantly they knew they would be outnumbered by ARMED individuals that they weren't going to be able to intimidate. Something to be said for our brothers in the wannabee army guy costumes.

Try reading this without getting pissed off.

                https://wset.com/news/at-the-capitol/richmond-braces-for-gun-rights-rally-on-monday

But Democratic lawmakers — including House Speaker Eileen Filler-Corn and Senate Majority Leader Dick Saslaw — told AP the rally wouldn’t impact their plans to pass gun-control measures, including universal background checks and a one-handgun-purchase-a-month limit. Democrats say tightening Virginia’s gun laws will make communities safer and help prevent mass shootings like the one last year in Virginia Beach, where a dozen people were killed in a municipal building.

“I was prepared to see a whole lot more people show up than actually did and I think it’s an indication that a lot of this rhetoric is bluster, quite frankly,” said Del. Chris Hurst, a gun-control advocate whose TV journalist girlfriend was killed in an on-air shooting in 2015.

On Monday, Southern Poverty Law Center staff members attended the rally and identified members of extremist militia groups, including the Oath Keepers and Three Percenters, as well as the League of the South, according to outreach director Lecia Brooks. The League of the South, which the center designates a hate group, advocates for Southern secession.
Yeah go figure. A group who's goal is to uphold the constitution is now considered an extremist militia by the SPLC.

When that event was canceled, students from March for Our Lives, the movement launched after 17 were killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida in 2018, decided they had to do something.

A group of about 15 college students and one high schooler came to Richmond on Sunday and slept overnight in the offices of two Democratic lawmakers to ensure they could make it into the Capitol area safely. Del. Dan Helmer, who’s sponsoring a bill that would block the National Rifle Association from operating an indoor gun range at its headquarters, and Del. Chris Hurst, a gun control advocate whose TV journalist girlfriend was killed in an on-air shooting in 2015, camped out alongside them.
When you don't want to hear from the thousands of people who disagree with you, you bring in your own crew of supporters and let them stay overnight in your office so that you can maintain your echo chamber.

I say **** political correctness. Do you honestly think that if every attendee had shown up with zero guns, that the media would have spent more than two seconds covering the rally?

Remember when you could carry your gun in the back window of your truck? Try that in any major city in this state now and see what happens.

What's next, if we cave to political correctness, and never show a gun in public? I'll tell you what happens. The sheep become so complacent to a world with out ever seeing a gun except on a police officer that someday, if some poor schlub were to accidentally display his firearm while bringing it to the car for range day, or to go hunting, that he would get red flagged, and arrested for causing a public disturbance, probably lose his permit to own, and spend time in jail with massive legal fees.

That's what the left wants! For guns to never be seen in public, and therefore everyone would be triggered IF they did see one! That is part of the left's eventual goal, is the disappearance of guns from the public purview. That's how you kill our gun culture to future generations, that's how you sensitize the public to those evil guns where just the sight of one is enough to cause mass panic, and that's how you kill the 2nd Amendment.

                  **** that.

I'm getting damned sick and tired of being lied to by the left. For decades I've heard they didn't want our guns, just common sense gun control. BullPeshitta! I always knew it was a lie, and so did all of you. Screw that. I'm done playing nice. It hasn't gotten us anywhere. Where's our compromise from them? Nowhere! Do we get to exercise the 2nd Amendment in every state like we get to exercise the 1st? Nope.

I have "leftist" friends from high school on Fakebook, and they won't even attempt to debate me on this subject anymore, because I make fools of them, and call them out on their hypocrisy. I don't give a Peshitta if I embarrass them. They deserve it for being intellectually lazy, or intellectually dishonest.

Shutting up and sitting down doesn't get us anywhere. Exercise it, or lose it. That's where we are at now, with Governors and Democrat Presidential candidates openly calling for confiscation.

VA. can exercise that right to open carry, and they'd better damn well use it, or they will end up like NY. If I didn't have to work, I would have been there.

It's not about being PC, it's about changing the narrative. The left likes to paint us as uneducated back woods yokels. When you represent yourself like that, it reinforces the false narrative.
