  • Keeping your shooting club cleaned up?

Well ever since I seen a post started by 4eXcalibur I had to start this one..So I hope this will be another good thread asking these types of questions..

He gave me idea what is the best way one should clean up and pickup all your spent casings at your local club or shooting range to keep it cleaned up.Not just spent casing but how about taking your used targets down and just picking up anything that should be and put it in the trash barrel..

I know a lot of people do there own reloading on 357, 38,40,44,9mm,10mm,45acp,30-06,308,270,223.5.56 etc.but there is also a lot that do not..

So that does help clean your local shooting club cleaned up, my biggest concern is 22lr,22wmr and 17hmr or any of type of ammo that will not be reloaded..so what is the best way to pickup these spent casing as there a pretty small casing to pickup if your shooting at a club that does not have a cement floor and has a grass surrounding..

I know they do make brass catches but not everybody will buy or use them.

So how does one pick up there spent casing so you do not have to bend down?

I know when I go to my local shooting club I pick up every signal shell I shoot but I always end up picking up someone else spent casing.

I do not mind doing it but it is getting very hard when you have a bad back,I do not have a hard time with the bigger calibers but man it is a pain in the ass when it comes time to pickup 22 ammo that is when it becomes really difficult for me and sure everyone else here,Now as most of you know when shooting semi auto 22lr the spent casing really fling out of your gun so that also makes them hard to find.

Anyways I like to see how everyone tries to keep there club clean and what is the best way to pick up your ammo.?

I also wish the spent casing where magnetic then it be easy to pick them up but unfortunately most spent casing are made of brass or some sort of non magnetic metal..

I could probably could get away with a 52 inch shaft but if I could get a 54 inch shaft that would be great as I could always adjust the length of the shaft

My club provides trash cans to throw out targets and whatever in and also trash cans for brass to go into. They also have many brooms hanging up. They have a couple standard dust pans which I drop on ground and place my foot behind to keep it from moving as I sweep my brass into it.

They also have a dust pan with a handle so you don't ever have to lean over to pick it up. I am not sure on timing but I know every once in a while they also close down the ranges and pick up all the stuff that no one else does.

They have a few brooms and dust pans at the club I belong to also and trash barrels to put your garbage in but as you know some people are just to lazy to pickup there thrash,I wish I could find out who these members are that are not doing there part to keep the range cleaned up as I would turned them in.

They do not have those dust pans that you mentioned but that is a good idea and I will let the club owner know that they should invest in a couple of them as that really would make it easier to pick up all the spent casings and other trash that is on the ground, now since you mentioned that I am going to invest in my own to have when I go to the range as I know it would help me out a lot..

All 100% the same at the ones i go to..some dust pan handles have the old bent up handle making it even easier.

I've seen a few people that use a Garden Weasel nut collector to pick up brass without having to bend down all the time.

Probably won't help for .22 casings though, be too small. Those we just sweep up and trash em. My range has 5 gallon buckets out all over for brass only (no steel or aluminum cases), and trash cans everywhere to clean up. I rarely walk into a mess, and always try and leave the place in better condition than I found it.

Same here, The 2 Clubs I belong to have plenty of trash cans, and the shooting area's are cement slabs, Easy to sweep up the casings! A lot of members reload so centerfire brass is never an issue, And what 22 brass goes forward of the line into the grass get's raked up at work parties.
