  • Should I buy a Cimarron 1873???

I have been wanting one of these for a long time. Problem is I want it then talk myself out of it an get something else. Then when I get money I want it again...then buy something else. It seems to be a viscous cycle. Part of the reason I keep passing it up is the avaliability of ammo. 45lc is kinda pricy and most is weak so it can be shot in older revolvers. Well I'm gonna have the ability to load my own which will bring the price down and make some quality ammo. My other issue is that its just not a range gun. I'm afraid i'm gonna spend $1400 on it and end up being bored with it after I shoot it few times. How much fun can you really have time after time punching paper with a lever gun in 45lc??? AR's and stuff like that are always fun at the range and you can put optics and stuff on them but we cant have that kinda stuff here :-(

Also I would prefer the 24" barrel version but that holds 13 +1 and im pretty sure that's now a no no here in NY. From my understanding only 22 rimfire was exempt for tube mags to hold more than 10 rounds. They do have a 20" version that holds 10+1 and I could live with that but...

OK so what does the herd have to say???

    Here is the 20"

Wow! That's a beauty of a rifle. I'd love a lever action and have had my eye on one at my lgs lately. It's a shorter barrel in .357 mag. If I get it, imma shoot the **** out of it!
    Athiest. Because... science

Buy it! And when you get bored shooting it just let me now.....I'll take it off your hands.
Beer is like porn, you can buy it but it's more fun to make your own

I have to bend over too far

      I get a boner.

bareback every couple of days, GTG. Bareback, brokeback, same $hit!

I joined a support group to help me deal with my social anxiety but I just can't seem to work up the nerve to go to a meeting......

I don't wanna get bored of it though. It's something I've wanted for awhile but am afraid the range shooting isn't gonna be fun with it.

I believe mag restriction still applies even though its a lever gun. 10+1 should be GTG.

That's my understanding of it too. What a big bunch of crap!!!! Basically lever guns have been outlawed now with this crap!!! They could have these in 1873, America can have these but us here in crappy ny cannot even have a lever gun!!!

I would not buy one for me. I mean if you are a fanatic and love them then go ahead. But unless you are going to be doing a reenhancement of the Old Wild West I do not see the point.
And I don't mean for any lever actions, but a more modern, more versatile and less costly and easier to maintain and accessorize might be a better bet.

So ask yourself, do you want this because you want to have it or because you want to do something fun with it, something that cannot be done with other gun?

What is what you want to do with it that cannot be done with other gun?

Is the pleasure of having it as a collection item or that doing something or just for show and tell ? (I have been there LOL)

What is what you really enjoy doing at the range. Do you shoot from a bench? Do you shoot standing? or you like to go prone and seek for extreme accuracy?
Both behcn and prone are a really PITA with lever, specially prone. Same with pumps.

Perhaps you can toss cans in the range and make them jump for 100 yards ( I can see the fun on that one LOL)

what is that makes you happy?. Remember that normally is something you do, not something you own. But what do I know anyway? LOL

Well I would like it basically because I cannot own anything else I want. If I lived in america I could buy about 30 guns on my wish list but I do not so choices are very limited here. See since I cannot have anything I want I am trying to get into something different. Basically I want one because they are cool, Would be a great plinker, Gives me something I can start reloading for, Fills the levergun void in my collection with a quality piece. Basically if we could have "Real" Ar's or guns with pistol grips I would not be buying this right now.

I do a lot of bench shooting. No real prone. I usually shoot 100 yards and less even though my ranges goes to 200. I can honestly see myself getting bored with the gun after shooting it a few times since its probably not the most accurate and really not meant for punching paper. I'm just not into bolt guns and don't know what to do to fill the void of something cool to play with. If it wasnt for my girlfriend I would be gone already. If I didnt just buy that boat and would have to sell it if i break up with her to move and havent even used it yet...i would move!!! lol

But you can also reload for a 44 mag, or 357 magnum and they make an awesome lever gun, some very accurate.
Or even a full power rifle round from a Browning BLR that is probably the most versatile lever gun ever devised.
So one in 308w or even the amazing 358 winchester that can be reloaded using 308 brass?

Or if you like extreme accuracy but do not like bolt actions what about an AR15? A ny compliant AR15 is as accurate as the non compliant one.
You are looking into match barrels with target crowns anyway and some of the stock options are actually pretty comfortable from the bench.
What about a 223 or other AR caliber that you can shoot inside one quarter at 200 yards all the time. It seems to me a great goal and
fun for someone shooting paper from a bench. After that you can move out to 300, 500, 800 yards or whatever possible.

Nothing is butchered, it is all standard parts, what do you mean?. The stock has zero impact in accuracy and to shoot form a bench they are perfect.
I think to some degree the frs stock feels somewhat better shooting prone. We are talking about a decent rifle for extreme accuracy. LW and krieger
barrels are the way to go imo.

I thought about the BLR for a while. They have a break down that can take several calibers same receiver.
They are pretty nice and very accurate. A friend has one and they are amazing. if you see the entire assembly including the
trigger comes down so no pinching fingers or gloves. very smooth.

I've handled those ar's before and I do not like them at all. I don't like the way they look and I do not like the way they feel! If I want an ar I'm gonna get an ar not some abomination!!!! No matter how accurate it is!!!

Also if if gonna get a lever run I want a cowboy style lever gun. Not a fan of these newer things.
