  • I did experiment today and found solution to gun control!

I had a nice conversation with people at work today about gun control and related issues. Politically we all have different values I believe.

    Here is my take away.......

    1. Gun control is not the solution to mass shootings. We need to investigate cause of them and go from there.

    2. Mental health is a real issue and unless we get rid of stigmas and only have those truly deemed threat to others not be allowed to own firearms your setting yourself up for failure.

    3. Finally if you want any truly meaningful change that might actually make a difference you need discussion from those in the middle and not those on the extemes of an issue.

    Thoughts?

3 is important I think. I just had a FB conversation with someone I went to school with. Wow! I quit wasting my breathe when no matter what evidence I presented she discounted because she didn’t like it. No evidence to prove me wrong - she just didn’t like it. The final thing she presented to me as her evidence and non-partial to either side was “everytown against gun violence”.

The biggest problem that we face today is the moral decay of our society and the breakdown of our normal family unit. They're growing up in households without fathers (often one of several half siblings.), being babysat by TV and electronic devices. Kids are no longer properly taught right from wrong. There's little to no consequences for their actions. They're not taught the value of life. They're not made to face adversity, instead their fragile snowflake psyche is shielded with trigger warnings and safe spaces by helicopter parents, who refuse to hear anything about little Johnny doing wrong. "NOT MY KID!"

Todays age of no accountability and the lack of personal responsibility, is completely run amok in every single one of these shootings. "It's the NRA's fault, it's Trump's fault, it's the gun's fault, it's the manufacturer's fault, it's the Easter Bunny 's fault.... blah blah blah. How about, "It falls squarely on the shoulders of the sick, demented, evil bastard that picked up a rifle and started shooting people." You cannot solve a problem until you correctly identify it, and honestly thinking that new laws will stop evil people from breaking existing laws should land you on the mentally ill list... where you can't buy firearms.

I am so disgusted by how the politicians and media treat these shootings. Any chance for a legitimate conversation about our problems gets destroyed by the immediate attempts to spin this into a partisan issue.

Interestingly, the complete incompetence and unrepentant attitude being displayed by Sheriff Israel and his officers might make people who are paying attention ponder this tragedy a bit more than others.

I've been hearing a lot about the block on the CDC on researching these events. I'm wondering why that was put into place, and what it might take to remove that block. That may give us some answers on how to actually stop this.

The Dickey Amendment (1996) mandated that "none of the funds made available for injury prevention and control at the (CDC) may be used to advocate or promote gun control".

So, you want to remove the prohibition that CDC gun violence research results be used to advocate for additional gun control?

I assume you have been listening to the left's spin on "blocking the CDC from researching gun violence"....interesting how things can get spun, huh?

This is why I asked. I didn't know what was up, but I suspected it to be fishy.

The biggest problem with "studies" these days is that they're never objective. The results are decided ahead of time by those that have commissioned it, and the facts are sought or created or cherry picked to achieve the desired outcome. I'd rather not have those flawed studies be used to craft gun control legislation. Or justify it.

The amount of disinformation out there about guns is staggering. I see it time and time again. When I have a discussion with anyone, to correct their false impressions and beliefs, they usually have nothing to say afterwards.

Lately, I've been ending the discussion with a simple fact.

Those kids are dead because of the intellectual dishonesty of the anti-gun left.
