  • It's almost time to buy my next "assault weapon"!

My birthday is coming up in less than three months, so it's time to start planning my next gun purchase.

I want something very specific. A 9mm semi-auto carbine, to be exact.

    I'm thinking Kel-Tec Sub-2000, Beretta CX4 Storm, Hi-Point 995TS, or similar.

Are there any other 9mm carbines I am missing? Time to start researching.....

That is a NICE looking bunch of meat!

I can still find a use for my thumb, even though it no longer has a hole to finger.

I could have been enjoying his nuts.

Just Right makes a 9mm carbine.

No idea how their prices compare to the other options, but they're made in the USA if you consider New Yorkistan part of the United States.

Don't buy a keltec or high point. They are garbage.
I suggest build a AR15 for a pistol round. CMMG pistol groups work great.
It is a shame when people demanding tolerance, have no tolerance

Yes, I understand that "cheap" means junk. However, doing an AR in 9mm does not appeal to me for this exercise. Compliant AR's have been done already. I want something a little more out of the ordinary, something that hasn't been done. I also want to keep the cost down. Under $700 is the goal here. This is not going to be a shtf rifle, a primary rifle, or a rifle that I will use often. I have other rifles for that.

I noticed you didn't discount the Beretta. So what else have you got?

I had looked at these a little while back. They are a little pricier than the others I listed. To make one compliant doesn't look hard, but interestingly, I don't see any mention of a NY compliant version on their website.

Edit: Actually it might pretty close in price to the Beretta. I'm not sure what the out the door price is on the Berettas because while their website has them alot cheaper than the JR Carbine, retail seems to be quite a bit higher.

A buddy of mine works for JR Carbines...built right in Canandagua (Rochester area). Great quality, in all sorts of calibers (I am waiting to see the .357 Sig version, myself). A bit pricier (than a High Point), but based on the premise that AR accessories will work. They use Glock mags (at least 9mm does) do readily available.

One story about High Point....UNREAL customer service. Call them & they will replace ANYTHING. Either send the rifle back to them, or they send you the parts to do yourself (or call and have them talk you through it). I called them once for a price on the new version stock that they started shipping with new rifles (it had several improvements, I was will to pay for them), and they shipped it to me free of charge. No joke. Not broken, just wanted the new one. Real fun shooting at 200yds. (Ed Note: this was at least 10 years ago)

Like Meketrefe says, they are "cheap". (That's a euphemism for Meke's "garbage".) However, from what I've read so far, most of the problems stem from aftermarket mags. Now since this is NY, that really shouldn't be an issue since we aren't allowed more than a 10 round magazine anyway. The only issue I have with this rifle is that they are proprietary mags, and someday when I move south, I would want some higher capacity mags to go with my 9mm handgun. It would be nice if it used the same mags as my carry pistol that I won't bother to apply for in THIS state. (FUAC)

I really like the price point though.

Also beretta are not that great if you need any aftermarket so the more reason for sticking with AR but...

                        Do you own a glock?

A full conceal lower makes the rifle NY compliant and no pistol permit needed if used with carbine upper only.

If one has a glock can also order longer pistol barrels and they sell rubber/neoprene pieces for the end of the buffer.

Ther FC can be used with any glock chasis given ones has the 16" barrel...

Remove the forward grip, pin the stock and with the FC lower you are ok for NY.
Perhaps a bit more money when going modular but way more options too and that do not depreciate so fast.

I just saw the ad again for this product earlier today.

But to answer your question, no, I do not own a Glock. Nor do I have a pistol permit in this state, and I will never have one in this state. It is a pointless exercise for me, as I can not carry for work when I would want it most, and I refuse to play by NY's rules.

So, the point of this exercise is to get a pistol caliber carbine that the ordinary gun owner wouldn't think to try and get legally because the out of box configuration makes it illegal in this state. So other than pinning the mag, (which I do NOT want to do) how would you make it legal? So far, the Hi-Point and the Beretta appear to me to be very easy to make legal.

The AR with the FRS stock is fully functional and NYS legal and the best option in either pistol or AR calibers no matter what anyone says. If one doesn't like
it is a different story but in terms of functionality, versatility and value is the best deal.

Also the the FC 80% Glock lowers are legal and no pistol permit needed. Just have to put it together and cut off the grip. The magazine becomes the grip when inserted.

This one is easy as it comes with the jig and proper bits to drill it. Lower parts are $110.

                            https://www.deltateamtactical.com/Po...T-_p_4764.html

$260-270 + whatever the upper is cheaper than a full pistol that is not an option for you anyway.

Other than that, try a suomi or sten vertical mag conversion. Those are fairly easy in semiauto with wood stocks available but you need to order the
                            new receiver and parts kits...

                            These guys have everything...

I would consider a NY compliant citadel M1 style before I burn the money on a sub2000 or hipoint.

                            http://www.gunbroker.com/item/623661088

Another way is a NY compliant TCM bolt action rifle that people have been converting to 9mm very inexpensively..

                            http://www.gunbroker.com/item/618385263

Any of those options including the bolt action better than a pinned magazine in a pistol caliber.

It is a shame when people demanding tolerance, have no tolerance
