I'm getting the hang of cracking my nuts! There's definitely a technique to it. It would be less of a mess if I did it on the deck instead of in the basement. Still cracking my nuts!
Every once in a while I go down to basement and finish off a half dozen or so. Today I did a good two dozen.
One thing I have noticed is now that the nuts are completely dried, they are much harder to crack and get bigger pieces out of the shell. The shell was much softer after two weeks of drying, and I could crack it without it shattering and breaking the nut inside in the process. Next time I will crack them all about two weeks after processing them, get the nut meat out, and then finish drying the nut itself in a warm oven.
