For FREE are Black Walnuts, IN THE HUSK, RAW, UNPROCESSED. All natural with no preservtives! They've just fallen from the tree. At present I have one wheel barrow full and should have at least another. I am located in SW Albany county. These nuts are NOT ready to eat. PM if you want them.

I had a black walnut tree in my back yard at the last house I owned, my solution was a 3 iron.

I still want a small bucket full of them, just to try. Boiling seems like the easiest way to open them, or maybe use my vise in the basement. Maybe I'll even try my hand at making a black walnut stain. lol

The tree lived in my neighbor's yard on the property line but 95% of the canopy (and hence the fruit) was over my property. I just used the golf club to pitch them back across the fence to their rightful owner.Originally posted by Tony View Post

Actually, I read that if they float, they are no good. They will be bitter. Edit: I also just read that if they float, they aren't worth cracking because there is little meat in the shell. Either way, it's a simple test since after I got them out of the hulls, they still needed to be washed. I put them in a garbage can, filled it with water from the garden hose, and used an old car washing hose attachment to scrub and beat them clean. I had to change the water multiple times.
Now I just have to dry my nuts properly, and then it will be time for the hardest part. Cracking them!
I have read multiple websites about how to process black walnuts. This instructable had some good info, for anyone wanting the basics.

I counted my nuts tonight, there's about 380.
