It's been 21 years since I last painted anything in college. For some reason I felt inspired and motivated to get going on a few paintings again. This one is still in process and I was curious to get some opinions on how I complete it.

But, with the stars on the blue/right, it could be construed as backwards or upside down.

Fixed it for you....now put the stars where they belong on the field of blue.

That was my original direction, but it looks too French that way.

The stars and stripes are going to be pretty subtle. There's also going to be a substantial amount of rust where the colors meet the white.

Is that the finished piece? Not crazy about the stars on the red, try it with the stars on the blue but oriented as it is, I think it will look like the flag is upside down, which is appropriate these days.

Not finished. I need to pretty much do the red side over, and I'm going to kill the stars. I'll see if just the red white and blue textures without stars and stripes look good. If not, I'll add them back in after the fact using a different method.

Right now there's a lot of variation going on with the blue side that you can't really pick up in the photo. So in person, things look like they don't go together well.
