  • Roe V Wade overturned

I know this is going to be really controversial but here we go.

First I haven't read the decision and am relying on media reports and quotes so my stance can change with more facts.

I also want to say I believe the supreme court's role is to rule on laws and be impartial.

Base on what I've read from liberal news sources I agree with the courts decision.

The constitution does not guarantee any right to abortion plain and simple. So constitutionally speaking it's not protected. The federal government has no law protecting it either so again federally not protected.

So this does become a states issue until the federal government acts and creates a law using it's power under the constitution.

The surpreme court it not supposed to be used as a cheat code to work around the constitution to get what people want.

It's simple, if this is such a big issue that everyone agrees on then pass the needed laws. Or move to a state that protects your right.

That is my legal constitutional opinion as a lay person and doesn't reflect my personal opinion on the subject. But this is a legal ruling so we need to look at it from that perspective.

Wow I'm surprised there isn't more comments on this one.

I'll add this ruling should scare everyone.........

          Our government has 3 branches.

          Executive (president)
          Legislature ( Congress)
          Judicial (supreme court).

The purpose is for checks and balances so no one branch gets to much power.

Legislature creates laws, executive branch enforces laws, and judicial branch essentially validates legality of laws.

What's scary is the fact that the supreme Court did it's job today. Abortion is not guaranteed under the constitution. Congress can pass a law protecting abortion and has had many years to do so but hasn't.

What we have now is the legislative and executive branch teaming up against the judicial branch. They have already talked about expanding the court to pack it with liberal justices. The supreme court is supposed to be impartial and not subject to politics but they are being dragged into it by the other branches who are trying to wraponize the American people against it so they can control it too. Which would take away the purpose of the 3 branches to keep each other in check.

The politicians are placing blame for what is there fault and now trying to use it to get more Democrats elected. The same party who had had power a few times and never codified abortion protections.

This is showing a breakdown in the system and the only glimmer of hope is that the supreme court did it's job and wasn't bullied.

If you read the politicians comments on this none of them have made any arguments on why abortion should be protected under the constitution.

As I've said the supreme court is not a short cut to get stuff done.

The way this is playing out and how 2 branches of government are using politics to attack the 3rd branch who is doing it's job to keep the others in check should scare everyone.

Norm Deguerre x2 please correct me if I'm wrong here, I did only a quick look up.

It appears roe V Wade said abortion was protected under the 14th amendment right to privacy since it's a decision between a mother and Dr? If that's the case then they should of brought up the 5th amendment right from self incrimination.

If the argument is that's it's a private decision alone then that would protect a lot of other things. So again constitutionally speaking I again think they made the right decision today.

I think it's very sad to see how many people don't actually understand what just happened here. The Supreme Court DID NOT strike down the right to an abortion. The decision just remands the decision on legality to each individual state. All the idiots protesting in NY and CA are rioting over something that will still be perfectly legal in their state.

And the same people who wanted forced vaccinations for the entire country are now worried about medical autonomy... let that irony sink in for minute.

The mainstream media is all too happy to keep people misinformed on the issue.

                  Soooo..... this happened.

President Biden signed an executive order Friday protecting abortion and contraception access after the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, saying the high court and Republicans have underestimated the "power of American women," and predicted they will turn out in "record numbers" for November’s midterm elections to "reclaim the rights" taken from them.

The president added the Supreme Court’s "terrible" and "extreme" ruling to return the issue of abortion to the states after more than 50 years was "wrongheaded."

"Let’s be clear about something from the very start — this was not a decision driven by the Constitution," he said. "Let me say it again — this was not a decision driven by the Constitution, and despite what those justices, the majority said, this was not a decision driven by history."

The president, slamming the high court, said they are "playing fast and loose with the facts," and stressed that "medicine should not be frozen in the 19th century."

Pretty much par for the course concerning any Constitutional ruling they don't like....the Progressives just say "F uck you, SCOTUS" and continue to do as they please. This surprises you?

I think it's just interesting to watch whether the rule of law exists anymore.

My initial impression is that the ruling basically left it to the states. So if a state outlaws abortion, and the feds somehow show up to provide it....? Or will the feds just try to keep planned parenthood clinics open in states shutting them down? No clue how this plays out.
