  • NYS Bitcoin Mining Moratorium

They're seriously going to build a wall to keep us all in one of these days aren't they.

[/URL]Some of these facilities are directly tied to power sources that emit significant amounts of carbon dioxide. Greenidge Generation in Dresden, N.Y., for example, repurposed a coal power plant that was previously shuttered.
First of all, this bitcoin mining operation a coal power plant that was converted to natural gas. So they're already misleading everyone to think this is a coal fired mining operation.

The moratorium’s focus is relatively narrow—it won’t impact existing operations, and it’s focused only on those that generate their own power instead of drawing from the state’s supply.
How is it better for a bitcoin mining operation to draw its power from the grid than to generate its own power? Especially a power source as clean as natural gas?

Kelles also predicted that the state could still be a cryptocurrency hub, as long as companies use renewable energy sources and are mindful of environmental impacts.
Yes. Let's make sure that the government is subsidizing all of these bitcoin mining operations by getting them all to use renewable energy.
