  • My dog may have saved the day...

Just got back from three days with the boy scouts. My wife and son went camping with friends up in Lake George. As they were coming home, wife stopped to get gas. Dog and my son were in back seat. Windows were down. As my wife is pumping gas she noticed a couple hanging around gas station who looked like they were up to no good. Girl was on a cell phone near front entrance. Guy was wondering around the parking lot. She's watching the guy and he approaches car from far side, sort of on a diagonal, approaching front right side of car as she is standing at pump at rear left. Her pocketbook was on front passenger seat. Boy is in rear passenger side with the dog next to him in rear on driver side. My wife says the guy looked really suspicious but never said anything. As he got closer, my dog jumped over my son, stuck her head out rear passenger side and started barking at the guy like wife has never seen. Dog is a 85 lb. black lab and is normally a big softie. She sometimes barks but you can always tell it's in a friendly, greeting sort of way. Anyway, guy apparently didn't see the dog and was startled by her did a 180 and ran away. My wife says "I'm sorry about my dog" and was met with a "go F yourself"... Dog is getting a few extra treats from me today...

Good dog. Give him a box of treats.

Also get your wife a nice Smith and Wesson Shield.

...and yet she doesn't consider this recent encounter a learning experience? What if (God forbid) she were alone when this happened?

My only knock on the situation was her response. No apology necessary. Bailey didn't cause any damage, possibly prevented it. Only did what you wanted. Praise was the only reaction IMO.

I need to get my wife to start carrying as well. Not sure how to get her started.

Bring her down to the shoot on a Tuesday night and have her talk with the other girls that shoot with us?

Not easy to do since we'd have to find someone to watch the offspring.

Perhaps CG's dog can keep an eye on them, apparently that's one of it's talents.

Great result and awesome dog. They sense what we miss. Hopefully your wife will see this as a nudge in the right direction but she's pretty typical it seems - my wife has had CCW for years and has yet to carry.
Ok I can go a couple ways

Not a problem, she'll even give them a bath (the only way she knows how, LOL)...

I think she's afraid she might use it, LOL...
