Good for you Camper!!! I used to do the Army PT test three to five times a week right into my late fifties and after this crappy winter, plan to get back into it, slowly. My kids and their spouses did a Monster mudder last year, even made up team t-shirts in the Gadson Flag design and are planning another one this summer. I am by no means a fitness nut, I did it because it made me feel good and I wanted to keep up with my kids, the many unintended consequences are all positive. Stay with it!!!!

I will admit, I had a very unorthodox method of training. Every race was a race, and every training session with my running friends was also a race. There were no easy days. I just took those days off completely. lolOriginally posted by camper4lyfe View Post
I actually prefer to run by myself. Maybe it's my personality. But mostly I think that it's just become my time by myself to relax and think with no distractions (I've inly come close to getting lost a couple times in a god awful housing tract).
I do love running races though. There's something about trying to pass the person in front of you. Pass one, on to the next."I ask, Sir, what is dinner? It is the whole chicken. To pluck the chicken is the best and most effectual way to prepare them."
Colonel Sanders
That is a NICE looking bunch of meat!
I can still find a use for my thumb, even though it no longer has a hole to finger.
I could have been enjoying his nuts.

I found that the miles went easier when I slowed myself down. I naturally want to run faster than I should if I want to run farther. It bit me in the ass a bit today because I fell into my natural, pre-injury pace I made 5k but man was it a struggle for the last half mile.Originally posted by phritz View PostI'm addicted to not running.
Used to run, just a mile or two at a time, and hated every second of it. I wanted to like it, just couldnt.Old enough to know better, still too young to care

I do want to try trial running at some point. I need to get up to speed on my road running first though. I've heard trails are a whole new level of self induced hell.Originally posted by 24Pink14Stink View PostCamper - that's awesome!! Best of luck!!
Not sure if you've tried trail running, but that takes it beyond addiction and into cult religion. I think segahunda trail run beckons you...Old enough to know better, still too young to care

Have no fear, I still eat what I want. I'm just more selective of what I eat before I run. There's only one type of run I want while I'm heading down the road.Originally posted by Chicken Shoot View PostEat well, exercise, stay healthy and die anyways. Here man ... have a seat ...
Enjoy!!
Seriously though, good luck to ya!!Old enough to know better, still too young to care

Your kids used to run circles around me. It sounds like they still can. Good for them!Originally posted by Robin'son View PostGood for you Camper!!! I tend to just run. I rarely have a plan other than a goal mileage of some degree. The only thing I really worked toward was only increasing my weekly mileage by 10%. I tried too much too soon last July and ended up with some tendon issues around my knee that sidelined me until October when I decided to try it again and go out slower.Originally posted by Pissed Off Patriot View Post

I'm currently signed up for 4 races this year, with 4 more lined up (waiting on the funds to do it).
I'm scheduled to run 8 miles this coming weekend in preparation for the Flower City half on the 26th of this month. After that I'm doing the Run for the River 10k (I did the 5k last year) in July, the 18.12 Challenge (18.12 miles from Watertown to Sackets Harbor) in August, and the Runner's World Festival (I'm doing the hat trick: 5k and 10k on Saturday, and half marathon on Sunday).
I'm still waiting on the Chase Corporate Challenge registration to open, and I'm looking at the Tibbetts Point 5k/10k Run in July, the Rochester Marathon (I'll do the half this year) in September, and the Rundead 5k in October.
I need a 2nd job to pay for all this stuff.
It's pretty cool, I found a web site that allows me to record past races and times, and list current and wishlist races. Looking back at last year's races, I can definitely see an improvement in my times, despite not doing very well in the training department due to injuries, but it's progress none the less.Old enough to know better, still too young to care

I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but I am looking at running this marathon in June - http://walkwaymarathon.org/ and this marathon in September - http://www.viamarathon.org/High Peaks Guru, but prefers twin peaks
we will need a separate class for my wife and for my girlfriend.
