Google Nexus 4. The Best Android Smartphones are the ones that run the Raw/Stock Android with no fluff installed on top of them. Phone is blazing fast and currently has 213 Apps Installed on it. Android 4 and the new Android 5 are super stable. Excellent Battery Life, but as with all Smartphones not enough to last a full day if you're using it heavily. That's where my 13,000mAh Anker USB Battery Bank comes into play. It keeps all my gadgets powered up.
I've only had to reboot my phone a couple of times a month, which usually occurs when a single app has badly written code and freezes up the system complexly. Normally about 97% of the time Android will give you the option to kill the misbehaving app, but that 3% it'll lock up completely. It's not fully Google's fault, as it's some of the more poorly written apps that are causing the issue.
Still to have a Quad-Core Smartphone that is as powerful as a PC from 5-6 Years ago is a major leap in performance in both the computing power, power consumption, and battery capacity of electronics from yesteryear!
I've been doing some research to use a used Smartphone for the following features below in a Simplex/Duplex Repeater System:
- Amateur Radio Packet Digipeater
- Slow Scan Television Picture Taker
- Simplex/Duplex Repeater System interface / inter-connectivity with other modules/apps/programs.
- Weather Station reporting Current Conditions
- Remote Access BBS (Bulletin Board Service) via Packet Radio
- Remote Long-Range Wi-Fi network.
This is a project of mine that I have been working on for some time. The complete design will be completely Solar Powered and deploy-able onto the top of a remote peak in the middle of nowhere. All of it's functions will be able to be configured remotely, so there is a lot of potential for something like this to have a massive potential for Comms in a Emergency / Disaster / SHTF Scenario.NRA Life Member
