  • Vodka

I don't drink, so I know nothing about this stuff. Wife wants to make vanilla for cooking. The process is to put raw vanilla beans into vodka for a long time. Not sure if I should just buy the cheapest vodka or if cheaper vodka would add a flavor. Anyone have recommendations?

And no, I'm not going to buy the most expensive stuff no matter what, so i guys I'm looking for cheap recommendations.

I am not entirely sure. I haven't priced out imitation vanilla extract vs. real vanilla extract. I believe the Mrs. wants to make bottles of the stuff to give away as Christmas gifts, and just giving away store-bought bottles probably doesn't have the same impact.

No idea. Probably depends on whether or not it tastes good to drink it straight.

Plenty of people need vanilla extract for cooking.

Use a good vodka. Have her make extra and use it for chilled vanilla flavored vodka shots.

You have to use 100 proof for making vanilla, can't remember the brand we used.

Will the liquor store let you return an unopened bottle? I'm seriously clueless about this stuff.

FYI: You're allowed to return unopened bottles of liquor.

Just in case anyone was wondering.

Also, I thought having a bottle of alcohol in a brown paper bag was just an old cliche, but they actually put it in a plain brown paper bag when you buy it.

So do liquor stores have a complex? Are they assuming people are ashamed to buy their product. Alcoholic beverages are very much socially acceptable, so why not a flashy branded bag so everyone knows where you bought your booze? Why the plain packaging that hides not only your purchase, but also where you bought it?

                          I don't get it.
