We have a family of skunks living under our deck. Does anyone know of skunks typically spray when you shoot them? Would be nice if I could just take them out with the pellet rifle, but if they spray when you shoot them that's not a good option.

Not if they're going to eat it and die under my deck. The deck is low to the ground and I'd never be able to get them out.Comment

I've shot 3 skunks over the years.Head shot worked twice, no spray.My grandfather used to fill a bowl of marshmallows with cheap whisky and leave it on the lawn overnight.In the morning he would bag up the drunken passed out skunks and dump em in the creek out back.Riding bareback since 1989Comment

Called town animal control. They said they won't help, but did tell me that only a licensed pest control specialist is allowed to deal with them. They also said it would be expensive. Dare I call animal control back and say that the skunks have been wandering around during the day a lot and I might have seen some foam on one of their mouths?

Just shoot them.As long as you are far enough away, why worry about spray? Ever walk out in the morning and smell skunk? Thats cause one sprayed nearby, and it goes away eventually.If you trap them, it is illegal to release them anywhere but on your property, so thats no help.They have very thin skin so a pellet to the back of the head/neck should do it, I used a .22 when I shot them.If you leave them be, they will take over, they compete with coons ad other scrounges for the same foods Guess who wins in that case? They breed like rabbits. We had a bunch at the seasonal cabin when we first got it.Never saw a coon at all.Me and my neighbor/friend Sonny killed 8 total between us and then the coons came back and that started a new adventure.If shooting them is not for you, try the whiskey and marshmallows, gramps used Windsor Canadian.Riding bareback since 1989Comment
