I've coughed a few times today and feel like I'm getting a little chest congestion. Odds I already have the kung-flu?

Just spoke with my grandma, her assisted living facility is in lock down now. An employee went to Jamaica and came back to work for a day. When they found out she left country they put her in quarantine for 2 weeks and now the assisted living facility is under quarantine for 2 weeks. I don't think the employee showed any symptoms either, just fact she left country.

crazy, but probably not a bad idea seeing they are so susceptible. a coworker's grandparent's community (yeah i know, brother's uncle's cousin's...) in irondequoit self quarantined starting the other day and as far as I could tell it was 100% preventative with no one having left the country or anything!

U of R just announced that they're switching over to online learning for the rest of the academic year for graduate and undergraduate programs.

Outside of health concerns, this whole pandemic is going to have some seriously far reaching concerns. Ok, you have all these kids staying home, so now you don't need half the staff at the college. Are you going to continue to pay them? Doubt it. How are they going to support themselves? It's going to get uglier.

But they're all still living on campus in the dorms, right? So WTF, why cancel classes? RIT Better not pull this sh it, my daughter has 6 weeks until she graduates. There's ton's of lab work that needs to be completed, capstone project field work that needs to be done, etc. SMH

Some colleges are just sending the kids home. A friend just dropped her kids back off at school a few days ago and are more bringing them home again.

No, they’re currently on spring break so they’ve been told to stay home. They can come back and get their stuff, but they can’t stay. Only some graduate students doing Jan research will be allowed to stay on campus.

Day care centers and K-12 are going to start closing. When that happens parents are going to have to watch their kids so they're not going to be able to work. It's going to be a cascading effect that we've never really dealt with on this scale before. Naturally there are going to be things that don't get done that nobody accounted for.

Like Dave J posted the other day: Watch your peripheral, there's something happening somewhere that they don't want us to see so they're distracting us with the virus panic.

I'm over halfway through it. Hoping it becomes less terrifying before it's over.

Well it's here in Monroe county.

              https://www.rochesterfirst.com/news/...monroe-county/
Officials say the patient is in isolation at home and is recovering.

Authorities say this case is the result of travel from a high risk area, and not a result of local transmission. Officials say it is not related to the students under quarantine at SUNY Brockport.

Officials say the risk of infection remains low in Monroe County.

I had a pretty vivid dream about fighting off zombies last night. Go figure.

Unfortunately I didn't have any guns in my dream.

NYC is going to get ugly before the month is over.

I read an engineer's analysis of when hospitals are going to be overwhelmed based on the number infected doubling every 6 days. The most recent analysis I read is saying the number is actually doubling every 4 days.

We're going to be hitting the Peshitta ahead of schedule.

yeah the R0 (doubling) of every 4 to 6 days is a big deal. most people have a hard time understanding exponentials.

i really don't like even being at work today to be honest.

I've still got a little chest congestion. Everyone still cool with me showing up to lunch tomorrow?

BJ's was doing a VERY brisk business for midday on a Thursday.
