  • Solar Charging Optima battery?

Hey guys hoping some of you have some experience. I ended up buying a optima d27m blue top battery to fit in my battery case to power my trolling motor for the canoe when camping.

I plan on using it to tow gear for upcoming camping trip behind canoe. I am going to be out in woods for a week and was thinking of bringing solar panel and charge controller. I have a 60 watt foldable panel and this charge controller. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0006...gIL&ref=plSrch

I understand I can't drain battery and expect it to charge it back up in a day. I was just thinking it might helo keep it topped off or close to it if I don't use motor too much that week while camping.

    Thoughts?

That is an excellent budget charge controller. It'll handle up to 105 watts of solar input (mfrs link for specs), so you're safe to use it with your 60w panel. It should do an excellent job keeping the battery topped off as long as you're not using the trolling motor all the time.

I got the trolling motor with the maximizer to reduce consumption at lower speeds. I also don't plan on using it to much.

I did learn an important lesson today though with trolling motors on canoes. Paddle till your tired then use motor because if you do it other way around your already tired from the sun.
