Car survival kit

Taking a lesson from those folks stranded in Buffalo last year during that freak snow storm, I have put together some basics that I always carry in the car (other than the standard jumper cables, flares, etc.):

- blanket
- small shovel (to keep the exhaust pipe clear if I'm stuck in place)
- spare hat, coat, gloves, boots (in case I have to leave the vehicle and am not dressed appropriately.....for instance on the way to/from work in my business attire)
- Zippo hand warmer (with spare fuel and a lighter)
- water (although it may have to be thawed to drink...another use for the hand warmer)
- protein bars/snacks
- flashlight
- first aid kit
- spare mag for my carry gun

In the summer I swap out the hat/gloves/boots/coat for rain gear and a poncho. What are you carrying in the car?

Recovery strap in case I need to be towed out
1 gal H2O
Spare gloves, hats, coats for me and 2 others.
Jumper cables
Bungee cord
Paracord
2x Israeli will blankets
1x cotton/poly blanket
Spare boots and socks
Backpack with headlamp, tarp, paracord, fixed blade knife and sharpener, first aid kit, esbit stove, tabs, lighter, firesteel, metal cup, various emergency snacks, spare charged phone battery, flashlight.

i like the pouches of water for the winter that don't burst when they freeze. i also use life boat type rations that take the temperature swings in the cars well.

added those stove in a can kits this winter for roadside warming option.

I've had pretty good luck with plastic water bottles (bulk packs from Tops or Weggys), they swell when frozen but haven't had any break. Good point about temp swings and rations: I pack mainly granola and Cliff bars, chocolate anything is a fail and I prefer to have something more palatable than the lifeboat bricks should I get stuck in the car for an extended period.
