  • Growing your own food?

Curious if anyone here is or thinking about growing food at home now because of covid-19? I've been hearing on news people are buying seeds like crazy.

yeah, we always grow a little bit at our place but i'm doubling our raised bed garden space as we speak. i have so much rock there isn't much that I can just garden on, so i built a 4x10 raised bed about 5 years ago. just built a 4x8 the other day out of cedar and probably going to do some more soon too. online seeds have been much more difficult to get and there are places that are definitely sold out. who knows if what i ordered weeks ago will even come to be honest. Vermont apparently has said they are non-essential and aren't allowing the sale in stores? I don't know how you can declare ****ing food seeds non-essential!

we could have big problems coming up with food. or not. even if we don't have problem, i'd rather pull veggies out of the yard then have to go and get them and wash them right now, too bad i haven't been canning like i've wanted to. Anyway, there are a lot of youtube vids talking about the coming food shortages, don't go down that rabbit hole if you don't want to but so much of our vegetables come from other countries. And so much of our vegetables grown here are planted and/or harvested using a great deal of migrant workers that may not be migrating. Lot of other issues happening with supply chains, ie a lot of milk is getting dumped currently and i hear that egg cartons are in short supply making it a problem getting eggs out to people.

All the more reason a state wide lockdown is short sighted and stupid. The rural areas should be allowed to move about more freely so the farmers can plant their crops.

Farmers are "moving around" and planting crops,
in particular, Corn is a 90 day crop
I have run a John Deere 4030 all day
      I am tired and irritable

What are some of the easier most nutritional overall veggies? I'm thinking of starting a raises bed garden as well.

i don't know Peshitta about nutrition, i would literally eat just meat and pasta all day every day if my wife would let me HAHA. so hopefully someone else can chime in on that.
what i've found easy are squashes like zucchini, tomatoes aren't too bad to grow, green beans. i've had good luck with carrots too. my daughter has been all about cucumbers lately so hopefully i can do that this year.

I did not mention the reason for potatoes

commercial potatoes are loaded with Glyphosate, as the use Round-Up to kill the vegetation before harvest

thug, the family Farm is in potato country down there by Lima
the amount of Round-Up used before harvest is incredible
I am certain that this is true of all market potato's
plus, it offends me to pay $6 for 5# of stuff dug outta the dirt

until you have used fresh basil, rosemary, thyme
you don't know how food should really taste
the dried spices you buy have been dead for years

My wife has been buying fresh basil from Wegmans and for the past few years we've been part of a farm share that gives us basil plants that we replant into a flower pot. Naan pizzas with fresh basil are great and the entire kitchen has a bit of a basil smell when we have one of the plants inside.
