So I was running around with the GF this morning trying to figure out how to get her $ back from when she posted bail for a family member last year. No one ever answers at the Sheriff's office and the web site says to take receipt to county clerk for refund. County clerk says "No, gotta go see the county court clerk at the municipal courthouse". Good thing I left the heater at home this morning (don't want to carry in the Clerk's office even though there is no security checkpoint).

So we go through security checkpoint at courthouse, I remove my belt, toss keys, flashlight, wallet, and cell into the tray for x-ray inspection, stuff my coat into the x-ray machine, and walk through the metal detector. No problem going through the metal detector but when I turn to get my stuff from the x-ray line I see half a dozen deputies standing around looking and pointing at the screen. Uh oh.......

The keep looking at my wallet and then running it back through the machine (I have a Trayvax stainless steel minimalist wallet). Then they start asking questions:

"Sir, is there a knife in your coat?" Sh it! Forgot about that. "Yes officer, outside front coat packet, sorry about that".

"Sir, are these your keys?" I look to see the deputy holding my keys in the air, pepper spray dangling from the key ring. "Yes officer, sorry about that"

Meanwhile they are intently studying my wallet and passing it back and forth. I finally ask if there is a problem...."Sir, do you have a handcuff key in your wallet?" Dammit! "Yes officer, there is a little stash spot for a spare key, I forgot there was a cuff key in there, sorry about that".

There were all cool about it, busted my chops pretty good, and gave me a receipt to pick my contraband up on the way out. Keep in mind that I was NOT planning on having to go through any security checkpoints when I left the house this morning but if I was I probably still would have been busted with all that stuff because i don't even think about having it on me anymore.

Sorry, didn't think about consulting you. The county clerk sent us to the county treasurer, who sent us to the city court clerk, who sent us to the city court treasurer, who sent us to the county court clerk, who finally had a clue. What a PITA.

Well, I never thought I would tell this story but the OP reminded me of something that happened about 12 years ago. It was right after the Bombing of the Federal building in OK City.
I was cleaning out the old barn at the home where I grew up. My Dad was born in 1895 so there was and still is some old and interesting things in there. I came across a .22 revolver with 6 inch octagon shaped barrel. It was in an old homemade tool box wrapped in some kind of oil skin or paper.
At this point in my life I had not taken any interest in handguns and the rifle and shotgun I had owned since the age of 14 had not been used by me in a very long time. I had other interests and had not gotten involved with firearms much. Therefore I was totally uneducated in regards to permit requirements , laws etc.
One night I take the gun to a friends shop where I was building up an engine for someones Corvette. He is a country boy so I thought maybe he was into guns and could tell me something about it. Turns out he was not much help. As I was leaving his place around 10PM I placed the revolver on the seat of my truck next to me. He commented, " I wouldn't leave that there".
So I placed it in a soft sided brief case type of a bag I had with me. This has a couple of zippered pockets inside and I placed it in one.
Now remember, I am not used to carrying handguns around.
My brother and I were going to place a bid on a US Mail route. Not home delivery, but one where we would transport mail from one facility to another with a large tractor and trailer.
Couple of days later my brother and I were going to a meeting in Albany for information about getting our DOT credentials. When we got there my brother asked me if I had anything to take notes with. I said "sure, right here in my brief case". So I grab the brief case and off we go to the meeting.
Soooooo, where was the meeting? The Leo W. O'Brien Federal building!!!!!! Remember, this is right after the OK City bombing.
In we go, I put everything on the conveyor belt thing and walk through the scanner. Yup, that's when the SHTF.
Must have been the most excitement they had in their careers. Four Feds. fighting over who would get into that bag first.
Of course the revolver was confiscated and sent directly upstairs to ATF. I got a summons and had to appear in Federal court.
I told the judge the story as told here. He admonished me quite vigorously. He also said that no one could possibly create such a story and believed me. He also said if I was ever before him again he would throw the book at me. Needless to say I never saw the revolver again.
OK, so I have finally come clean with my forum firearm friends.
Seriously, sounds too crazy to be credible doesn't it?

Bummer about the revolver. It sounds like an interesting piece.

That is a NICE looking bunch of meat!

I can still find a use for my thumb, even though it no longer has a hole to finger.

I could have been enjoying his nuts.

Yeah, probably wound up in someones personal collection.
I think the fact that I did not have any ammo with the gun went in my favor.
