IDK, 8" rifled "barrel" should be better than pistol. Pack several calibers in your BOB and leave options on table for whatever ammo comes your way? Here is a review of 9mm conversion by Pathfinder School...

My thoughts?

I suppose if your SHTF weapon of choice is a single or double barrel break-open shotgun and you didn't have any shotgun shells because you spent all your money on one of these kits, and you managed to scavenge up some pistols caliber rounds, it would be a nice thing to have.

Aimed fire at more than standard effective 12ga distances is probably going to be a crapshoot at best unless you just happened to have traditional front and rear rifle sights on your shotgun (and you practice frequently enough that you could get halfway decent results). Your rate of fire is going to suck too, being that you have to manually pry out each spent cartridge.

So......if it was the zombie apocalypse and I just happened to be armed with nothing more then an old Montgomery Ward 12ga break-open, and I had a set of these things, and I came across a handful of mixed pistol caliber ammo, and I could engage the threats from inside of a reasonable distance, I might be glad that I had them. I think I'd be better off with a slingshot (wider variety of ammo choices).

OK how about an H&K P2A1 26.5mm flare gun for S&R and a 9 mm adapter to hunt small game? (I realize you would need to adapt the 26.5mm flare to 12 ga but just for PePeshittatas and giggles...

I had considered the flare gun angle, if if was truly a WROL situation if would be a nice tool to have (but you're screwed if you get caught with one in any of the kommunist states outside of a situation involving the total breakdown of society).
