I thought this was an interesting article from ZeroHedge. We saw more extreme examples of this after Hurricane Katrina and Sandy.

It's sobering to consider how fragile our comfortable civilization really is. Meanwhile, the sheeple watch other countries fall apart on TV with detached amusement thinking "I'm so glad it could never happen here."

I have about 20 gallons of clean water stored. I need to stock up on more canned goods. Fortunately with all my camping gear I could survive the Winter with no heat, cook meals without an oven. I do have a water source that doesn't freeze and plenty of filters and pens to clean and purify water. I have means to protect my home and myself so I'd say the issue I need to address is long term food source.

By my estimation, it's just less than 2 weeks post-event before a hint of anyone showing up at my my place with ill intentions. By 3 weeks, I fully expect company.

ETA... that's assuming drift from the city. The possibility of the random, angry suburbanites starts on day 2.

Depending on situation I figure you have at least 3 days. After 3 days I think it's possible for things to start deteriorating.
