  • Acog... Aimpoint 3x.... Hunting...

I have been using my 7.5" and 12.5" ARP 6.8 SPC II pistol uppers for harvesting deer the last few seasons and love them. On my 7.5" I have a vortex viper PST and an Aimpoint PRO on my 12.5". Seems backwards I know but they are each purpose built. Anyway, just picked up an Aimpoint 3x magnifier in a LaRue flip over mount and should be here tomorrow. Very excited for it to come in. I was on the fence about buying it because I found a 6.8 specific ACOG 4x on sale and have heard it's awesome for the ranges I hunt (50-200 yards). With my 7.5" 6.8 I can comfortably take deer at 100-115yds with a solid rest but it is heavy on that small upper and does require batteries which do not last a whole day out in the cold.

The magnifier I have experience behind and love it's quick to swing out of the way to go straight to my PRO or H-1 Aimpoint. I always wanted one to keep and got it at a third of the retail price including the mount so couldn't say no. Any of you ever hunt with a red dot and magnifier?

i may still get the Acog since it's still on sale under $1k and I've been a good boy selling lots of toys so I can spend some cash. Anyone ever hunt with an Acog.... Deer that is.

No but I have used them and own one and I like the bullet drop compensater as well as how rugged and tough they are. If Marines don't break them all the time then your good to go.

I agree USMC. Only 6.8 model is the red horseshoe which is fine by me. Yes, I do love the bullet drop and windage marks as well on the Acog.

Well, I pulled the trigger. Bought the Acog.

Here is is the model I purchased: http://www.trijicon.com/na_en/produc...p?pid=TA31H-68

i got it for $600 cheaper than MSRP as listed in the site NEW on gunbroker from a reputable dealer. Couldn't pass it up. Also ordered the Larue QD mount for it.

I pi also was disappointed to find out that my magnifier does not jive well with my H-1 Aimpoint. The Larue mount I have for the H-1 is substantially lower then the magnifier and interrupts the field of view. However, magnifier works well with my PRO so is that it is.

Acog is like the HDTV of practical scopes. Very well though out. I like the smaller ones with correction but cannot beat the FOV of the acog! (A COCK in Vietnamese )
It is a shame when people demanding tolerance, have no tolerance

I've been a 1x to 4x guy with my Vortex Viper PST and a few other optics for a while. Honestly love just using irons but for ethical shots for harvesting meat some magnification/optic is required. Plus, the type of harvesting I do requires quick target acquisition and fast adjustments for range hence the Acog. Performing damage control with the DEC and the number of deer I am able to shoot and keep and then give the rest away to those in need allows for multiple opportunities for taking game. Sometimes I am in deep brush and forest... Other times I am in fields in excess of 50-75 Acres. Seems these two options of 3x Aimpoint magnifier and the PRO or the Acog will help me out. I will alternate day to day between the two and let you all know my findings.
