  • 2015 Hunting sucess

    Took my nephew camping and hunting last Wed and Thurs. Did several jump hunts on the way in and found some good sign so we backed out and set up camp across the lake. Went back and sat till dark but Mr buck didn't show. Went back in at sunrise and he showed up a few minutes after 08:00. He didn't fare so well against a 350 gr 45-70 hand load. 6pt, 11.25 inside spread 165 lbs. Here we are paddling out Thur afternoon.
    Let's hear from others.

Open invitation, dress appropriately, no F'n after shave, cologne, fufu or what ever you call it, yu aint screwing anything, just plain and simple killing, hunt the bastard down and put it in ma belly. Open invite, bring a lifle preserver, must wear it as cold water or come along and fish with my brother, canoe or john boat and trolling motor

          Thanks appreciate the invitation but not going to happen. Nothing personal I just have other commitments and hunting isn't one of them. Maybe some other time with some advanced planning. My boy is still too young but can see getting serious when he's older so he can pass down stories about being out hunting with dad to his kids one day. That's the reality behind my regrets...

          Again, really appreciate the offer. Thanks!

              Thanks guys, any takers? This is going to be an annual (hope I spelled that right, ha ha) event. Next year we hope to do muzzleloading weekend then Mon and Tue.

                Nothing worth taking on our latest trip but some pictures of the greatest engineers in the world. I must say I love beavers.
                Dropped my nephew off to do a still hunt to me and ran in to this upstream, 4 foot high. Wish I had snapped pictures where others before me cut 5 inch logs and laid them to form a ramp to drag your boat or canoe up and over. This thigh went over a hundred yard up stream as well. Pretty cool as I paddled through the woods to get to the hill where I was to watch. I need to retire and become a bush person. Hell I used beaver and bush in the same paragraph, if I were younger I'd go whip up a batch of man gravy, ha ha.

                  I also took the gun racks off my four wheeler and mounted them on my canoe, does that make me an official Redneck?

                    Old enough to know better, still too young to care

                      Just heard from the guys at camp, today is the first they saw bucks chasing does. Same thing from another camp, things are starting to happen in the north woods.

                          I get a boner.

                          I joined a support group to help me deal with my social anxiety but I just can't seem to work up the nerve to go to a meeting......

                            I see a good size deer at the end of my field, big body, small hairy horns. I'm thinking a weird rack for the size deer, so I figure what the hell, get my Dad and we'll take it. He says it's meat, so I let one fly, 7mm08 at 225 yards. Deer goes 20 yards and tips over.
                            2 surprises when we gut it;
                            1st it's a doe with horns, second horny doe I've gotten
                            2nd, when I gut it, I split the heart with the shot, elated with the shot placement at that range. Was thinking it was a good shot and a good hit by the deers reaction. Don't usually shoot spikes but the body was big and couldn't figure out the rack, but now we know, a lack of balls to say the least.

                              Sat out after work, took a nap under the pines, sat until it was hard to see and was rewarded with this beautiful sunset paddeling back across the beaver swamp behind my house. Ice is still thin enough that I don't need that chain saw you guys offered me.
