  • Mounting transducer to boat help

So I mounted transducer to my boat today with a magnetic mount. I did not have any issues with it holding on but once I got to around 7 or 8 mph it stopped giving accurate depth information.

I have it atleast 12 I inches away from prop and the whole transducer is below hull. Should i move it up?

The boat is riveted and the transducer is not in line with them except the ones along entire back end.

    Thoughts or ideas?

Mine is mounted at least 20" away from prop and parallel with the keel. At speed I don't think I get "accurate" depth but close.

You won't get accurate readings at any speed above 4-5mph in most cases. It's designed to be used at slow speeds and trolling or drifting along. Transducer should not be below the hull. Even or above the bottom of the hull for best results. (and less drag on the transducer when moving)

I guess I can try and raise it next time I go out and see if that makes a difference.

Think about how the transducer works: It shoots a beam downward and listens for the reflection coming back. The faster you go and/or the deeper the water, the more you have to angle the transducer towards the direction you are travelling so that you aren't a half mile down the lake when the reflected sonar wave bounces back. Make sense?

Who reads directions! So if I add more weight to front of boat then I might get a little more speed before losing bottom.

I mounted it up higher and have had better results before losing bottom. I think I just need to play with it more
