  • Eating fish to save money / survival?

So I don't eat much fish but I remember reading on NYS websitethe guidelines for eating fish. For women it's mostly dont eat any and for men it's don't eat a lot regardless of the body of water they are caught.

Would fish ever be a good source of food long term in general regardless of where you are?

They also talked about fish you buy at stores likely coming from many different areas so you should be fine.

It just seems like they aren't coming out and saying it straight but that our water is very contaminated that we shouldn't really eat what comes out of it.

I think it depends on where the fish are from. If I'm fishing Lake Ontario or Erie then it's strictly catch and release. Now if I were to catch a nice perch or walleye from the finger-lakes, ADK's or Algonquin then I'll eat them. Then again with my fishing skills I don't have to worry about eating too much fish. LOL!

They say most of the contaminants are in the fat so skinning before cooking should take care of most of it. All NY waters have an advisory on them, that shouldn't stop you if you're starving tho.
