Fishing / depth finder tips?

Anyone have any knowledge or tips they are willing to share regarding finding of fish ? I bought the Helix 5 DI GPS unit and will be taking it out next week and looking to make it as productive as possible.

Typically, cover is where the big fish hang out, as well as drop offs, and feeder streams.

Edges. (where cold meets warm, dirty meets clean, fast meets slow, dark meets light, weeds meet clear, rock meets sand, etc.) Edges.

Always remember: the biggest predators are ambush feeders and edges give them a place to hide.

Yeah
Fish Finders don't find fish. They tell you the depth, if the bottom is mud or rock, if there are weeds and how thick they are.
Read your manual and figure out the controls. Don't just put it on automatic and think it will tell everything.

I have been playing with it in simulation mode and trying to learn as much as I can.

Big thing I learned it to match chart speed with speed your going or have chart speed slightly faster

learn to control/fine tune the sensitivity. That's pretty much the most important part.

Ok, that doesn't seem that bad either since it just increases or decreases clutter by either showing or blocking the weaker signals.
