Thinking about taking boy on a charter fishing boat

Funeral/wake for wife's grandmother was out in Long Island and I saw some of her cousins that I don't get a chance to see that often. Got to talking about doing a fishing trip with the kids. They recommend fluke/flounder because the kids should catch a lot of fish. Blues are no guarantee but supposedly more fun to catch. What do you guys recommend? I don't even know what's in season lol.

Don't. Save the money. so many things one can do with the kids w/o spending a penny.
All they need is our company and attention. Have a bicycle?, go on an expedition trip with picnic included.
Have a tent? camp somewhere even if it is in the back yard. LOL
Have the fishing license? go get some trout on a stream. That is real fishing.

Fishing charters are a lot of fun. It's something you can't really do on a regular basis, so it makes it special. I highly recommend it. My wife and I went on one on our honeymoon and had a really good time, and we want to do another charter, most likely on Lake Ontario, soon.

Went on a charter fishing trip on Lake Ontario with my father and a friend and his father when I was in middle school. It was a good time and memorable experience. Having only fished in the river before that, catching some lake trout was pretty cool.

I used to go out on charters a fair amount. Bluefish are definitely a lot of fun. Those things are fighters. I've hooked a few that took a good 10 minutes to get into the boat. For fluke and flounder you need to be more gentle, but if you're on top of them, you can catch a lot. I've also gone out for sea bass, Ling cod, and others. It's all fun, and if the kids enjoy fishing and don't tend to get too sea sick, I highly recommend it.

Take the kid Porgie fishing. They are in now and non stop action. Lots of boats out of New Rochelle and City Island. If you want a mode personal experience on a smaller boat try Don Grippo of hookem charters in Mamaroneck.

Looks like I will be going on a large charter out of New Rochelle on Sunday. I think its 8 am to 4 pm. $65 per adult and $40 kids under 15. Anybody on forum is welcome to join us if interested let me know and I'll pm details. We're waiting to hear back from company so info above may change.
