They just love throwing away the people's money, don't they?
Politicians are like diapers. They both need to be changed often, and for the same reason.

Hey 4x those were good links. Maybe a better description and comment would draw more members/participation?

School budgets are voted on because it is taxpayer funds that fund for those budgets. A half a million dollars of TAXPAYER funds were flushed down the toilet without putting the decision to vote by the taxpayers that own those guns. Frivolous, reckless and irresponsible government waste in its purest form. SMH

Cut their budget by $500k for the next year since they are clearly stating they don't need that much money? A pretty outrageous act of disrespect towards the taxpayers.

Agree with sentiment MS but rhetoric aside HPD owned those guns not the taxpayer....

I do agree it was a bad and likely politically motivated decision but I'm quite certain they didn't need a public referendum to do what they did. Just like someone who owns 100 shares of XYZ corp. They may think they own the assets of the company but in fact just a residual claim on net assets after management and creditors have there way lol...

Understand your counter CG, but police departments are funded by taxpayer money. The comparison to xyz Corp doesn't fly, IMO. PD budgets still require town/city council approval. Agreed that no referendum is necessary but they do answer to the taxpayer. Besides, it didn't appear that the HPD was totally on board with the reckless decision to destroy. It seems the local government caved once again.

Sure they do... So why don't you walk into your local PD and tell them you are a taxpayer and want to inspect their gun. See how that goes, lol... We live in a republic and you and joe tax payer and jane tax taker has a say in who represents you. After you vote them into office the decisions they take has no bearing on your particular wishes. You get to vote them out of office if they're not doing the job you anticipated, and enough people happen to agree with you. That's the remedy it ends there. To say the guns belonged to the "taxpayer" is a farse. It's all a ****ing game bro.

At a local level yes. At State and Federal level your vote doesn't count. Hasn't in a loooong time.

If the town council said the firearms were to be sold you can bet the firearms would have been sold. The act of destroying the guns was not a PD decision. That decision was made by the local politicians. The local taxpayer needed to rally behind the 'right' decision in order to have had it play out the way we think it should have played out.

I think the equipment of a police department or highway department or any government entity is taxpayer funded. The taxpayer should not have any expectation of physical control but a expectation of a benefit from the municipality having particular equipment is a realistic one. The taxpayer that funds HPD should be irate at that gross waste of money and poor stewards of their money.
                              I'm confused!!!!!
