  • Stripping paint from foundation

I've been trying to use a pressure washer for a while now and a scraper but its pretty tedious. A y suggestions on paint strippers that would work? I want to get all the paint off to do some patches and repaint everything . I'm hoping to do the masonry Wednesday or Thursday this week and the following do the painting.

    Thanks guys!

    What about blasting it off?

What is foundation made out of concrete/block? Do you have to get all of the old paint off or just the loose stuff that comes off with scraper? I would think sand blasting would go through a ton of media unless you had a pro system that recovers it and recycles. Wire attachment on portable grinder? Chemical stripper?

1939 material looks like block construction. As I have been blasting I have found some extra spalling that I couldn't see when paint was on so I just want to remove all if I can. I was thinking chemical stripping as well but have no idea on what type to use. Not sure of paint type either .

Almost certain it would be lead based I'd where a respirator esp if whatever you decide on makes dust. Buy a small can of stripper and see if it works...

Don't think paint is lead based...... I say this because they didn't paint behind front steps which aren't that old unless someone had a lot of extra old lead paint lol. Looks like it was done after they put in glassblock basement windows.

I'm thinking wire brush on a grinder or drill. I've not had good luck with chemical strippers on surfaces that aren't relatively smooth.

I see stripping and I get all excited ... and then I read paint.. what a boomer.

What about a wire brush and a pressure washer. I have a pressure washer that if you are not careful will cut though concrete. so removing paint from cement is like nothing.
I am just worried about saving elbow grease. ...but I you might be ok there... anything that requires a vigorous rapid motion of the hand you are an expert! lol.
