  • Hey Chicken, what's the best baitcaster reel for NUBE

Having trouble with the one you sold me. I think it might have gotten a little gummed up from sitting on the boat for a couple of years. Doesn't feel "smooth" anymore.

If money is no object (within reason up to $500 or so...) what is the best baitcaster out there to match up to an awesome St. Croix Light Action rod?

Camper feel free to chime in if you're still among us, LOL.

How's the action on that rod? Is it a soft rod that flexes the full length? Baitcasters tend to work better (especially for noobs) on a rod with a fast tip.
Beer is like porn, you can buy it but it's more fun to make your own

I have to bend over too far

    I get a boner.

bareback every couple of days, GTG. Bareback, brokeback, same $hit!

I joined a support group to help me deal with my social anxiety but I just can't seem to work up the nerve to go to a meeting......

Actually wouldn't know how to describe it other than it puts it down wherever I want it. Not having too much of a problem with the reel itself more of it doesn't feel as smooth as it once did.

That one you got from me may just need to be cleaned OR it's way out of adjustment. There's no such thing as what reel matches a pole. A reel is a reel and the pole is what determines how it reacts to baits, casting and of course fish. What line do you have on it? That Citica isn't a cheap reel and I have gone back to baitcasters. I FINALLY got the hang of it. I'm using the Citica and Abu Garcia Black Max reels. The Black Max is definitely aimed for the novice baitcasting user. They are a really easy to use reel. The Citica .. that's extremely sensitive to all adjustments and is quite abit faster with a 7.1:1 ratio. If you want, you can send that reel to me and I'll go through it and send it back. The only thing that determines what reel will work on ANY pole is if the reel feels right for you. Having the most expensive fishing gear means nothing in reality. Light action?? Are you fishing for brook trout? LOL Medium Action Sir ... MEDIUM action. If you think there is something wrong with the reel get it back here or play with the adjustments some. That reel definitely should not be anything but smooth for years to come. I'm curious about that now. Have you changed the line?? The line needs to be changed every year. If you're coming up this way, let me know and I can tear it down and clean it and re-lube that reel in just a couple of minutes.

If you're looking for a nicer reel, move up to the Shimano Curado. The difference between the Citica and the Curado is the Curado has MUCH more expensive bearings in it. The handle is generally much bigger as well. I'll look at the Pro Shop to see what they go for. I do know that they are out of my price range. This Citica is where I stop at $150 price point. LOL Lew's also makes some VERY nice reels as well. You really need to play around with different reels and pick one that fits your needs. I'm no professional angler even though I do compete in tournaments, but from what I've seen in tournaments and from talking to many that ARE professional anglers, they won't buy the most expensive stuff in belief it's better because it costs more. Many are running what I run. The Citica/Curado are the most commonly used reel in tournaments followed by Lew's, Abu Garcia. (more expensive Abu Garcia's) and Okuma and the least common would be Pflueger

It might be the line. Still running the same line you had on it. Not even sure what kind it is. Green, tough as nails. It still works fine just not as smooth as it was when I got it...

Thanks for the info. Appreciate it.

OUCH!! Yeah ... that's Power Pro 30lb Braided line. That needs to be changed. It could be what you're feeling. Like I said, that Citica reel is very sensitive so crappy line that has stiffened up over a year or so could very well be the cause of what you're feeling.

It's not so much the size of the fish you expect to catch but rather where you plan on fishing. In the weeds?? Around downed trees?? If you're fishing in the open water, switch to 8-10lb fluorocarbon line. The braided line was on there because I was going fishing in the jungle if I used that reel and pole. I mean like, you see nothing BUT weeds in the water and grown to the top of the water kind of jungle!!! LOL More open water you really wanna switch to fluorocarbon line because that line refracts light identical to water and the fish can't see the line. (shhhhhhhhhhhhh ..... I didn't tell you that secret)

2lb bass??? I really need to get up there and show you how to get the bigger fish.
