  • Fishing tackle equipment?

    Hello Everyone,

First let me say I want to send a big Thank You to Chicken Shoot for sending me a new reel, have not got it yet should be here today so I post a picture of the new reel once I get it,I also want to Thank him for getting me back in to the sport of going fishing and just having fun plus get me out of the house..

Well it has been a long time since I have bought any type of fishing equipment,I still know how to fish but been out of the loop on what to use anymore, when I went fishing last year with a friend he supplied everything I needed to fish with..

I did go fishing last year with a good friend who has a beautiful bass boat but he lives about a 1 hour away so I be mainly trying to fish off the sure line till he comes down and then I can go fishing with him in his boat..

So first when I use to ice fish and boat fish I always used in the summer time fishing jig heads with rubber worm like jigs that if memory serves correct where no longer then 2 inch, but back then I was fishing mainly perch, sunfish,Crappie to make money selling live weight..I also want to Bull Head fish also there is 2 places in Vermont I know where to go where the Bull Head are pretty good size and if your like you might even catch Cat Fish there also..

These where the 2 rubber colors I remember fishing with.

    Electric Blue and Motor Oil..

The only thing I can not remember is what the colors I used and size of the jig heads,I do remember when fishing perch my line was set up with 2 all the way to 4 jigs on one line so when you got into a nice school of perch I was pulling 2 to 4 perch at a time man that was fun but well worth it at the time when you could fill a 100 quart cooler in 1 day..

I am also going to setup another pole, reel and line just for the perch, sunfish and Crappie as you need to have a lighter setup for this for the sensitivity, the reel that I getting from Chicken Shoot I be setting up for Bass and Pike and maybe bigger fish such as Musky,I have a place not to far away where they can get fairly big if they have not been fished out since it has been over 20 years since I last fished there..

Anyways if all you guys who do a lot of fishing can recommend color and sizes of the rubber lure I should go with please let me know,I will also need recommendations on the size jig heads I should also need to get for the rubber..

I will also need recommendations on types a lures I should get for Bass,Pike and Musky..I know Chicken Shoot mentioned to me he was sending a couple of his favorite crank bait lures he uses..

I know it take me some time to build up a good Tackle Box so I just like to get started on some stuff starting next month,,

So I pretty much need everything for fishing so if you can put a list of things I should look at getting, the main thing would be a fairly good size tackle box to hold everything,I do not need one that I will need a fork lift to pick up once it is full, lol

But one that will hold a fair amount of tackle and supplies needed for fishing..

So list away so I can make a grocery list of things I will need to get..

    Clarence

I could probably could get away with a 52 inch shaft but if I could get a 54 inch shaft that would be great as I could always adjust the length of the shaft

For bass where I fish (deep clear water from a boat), I love a Senko on a drop shot rig (#4 in the link) http://www.fieldandstream.com/articl...mallmouth-bass I've even caught a pike on this set up.

For pike and Muskie, spoons will generally be your best bet.

#3 and #4 Mepps with rooster tails, #5 if your after Musky. Been having good luck with white, yellow, red and purple rooster tails. Been having some luck with orange tails and brass body and spinners. You can drop down to a #2 Mepps spinner and half a worm or crawler. You can use Rooster tails as well, somewhat lighter than a Mepps and a little less money. You can also use a small split shot sinker with a #2 spinner or Mepps for faster water or a little more reach when casting using smaller lighter tackle.
I must say I love beavers.

play with the color combo's, find or make a holder so when you switch lures you're not just throwing them back a box, they will rust and turn crappie. I fish with ultra light gear a lot and use micro leaders (Eagle Claw). Use what leader works best for your situation, but stay as small as possible. I find a Leatherman (needle nose) works great for removing hooks and gives you basic tools all in one. Mine even has a small lanyard loop that I have a 24 inch piece of fishing line tied to to keep it tethered to my tackle box. Soft side tackle boxes with the removable trays seem to be the most convenient..

Just be-careful when taking a leak after handling Pickerel, get that slippery smelly stuff on your wiener and no telling what will happen out in the boat. We've all seen the Captain Stabbin videos.

Yep! Mepps Black Fury in a #2 or #3, Storm crankbaits and Gary Yamamoto Senkos wacky rigged on a 3/0 or 4/0 offset hook are my 3 main go to lures. I'll play around with Kreature Baits as well and Texas rig them and have alittle fun in the heavy weeds near the bottom in 8-12' of water. Remember, dark days or muddy waters means dark colors. Bright colors in the clear water and sunny days.

Harley seems to have a thing for pickereled penis. Fish as far away from that guy as possible!! LMFAO

CS, you tried nose rigging them on a drop shot 12"-18" of the bottom? It works great up in the 1000 islands because it keeps the gobies away. Watermelon works the best up there. Smallmouth love them, and I've seen some good largemouth pulled in with them too.

Yep. I'll drop shot them as well. Watermelon color seems to work well as does black with blue sparkles. Baby Bass works well and even Bubble Gum!! The color I've had the best luck with is Rainbow Trout. I just bought 8 bags in that color since the tourneys start in 3 weeks.

Chicken Shoot I know you had mentioned to me on what I should get for a Rod but I forgot what it was can you tell me again,I going to go get one this Wednesday along with some tackle and few other things,I would go tomorrow but I just found out I had a message on the answering service I have a appointment to go see a Heart Dr. tomorrow at 1pm which is great news it is better then having to wait 2 weeks now, maybe I leave a little earlier and head to Plattsburgh to go to Walmart,Dicks Sporting goods and Gander Mountain to see what they have to offer..

Now since I need pretty much a little everything what do you all recommend I should get for a tackle box to carry the tackle in..

I am looking at something to carry my tackle and I seriously looking at getting a tackle bags which would make it easier for me to carry since you can carry it over your shoulder vs just a handle.

What do you all use to carry your tackle in?, I am looking at getting something like this one from Gander Mountain it is called the Gander Mountain Custom Tackle Bag, Khaki ...

I have not seen this one in person yet but from the pictures and that it has 6 separate containers and all sorts of pockets it looks like it would be more then big enough to carry all the tackle I would need to carry,

So what do you all think of this one or do you think II should look at other types of tackle bags?
