  • Rocket Stove Applications

Here is an interesting rocket stove into oven application.
Do you have a rocket stove? What do you do with it?

Had a very good friend who was a German auto body guy. His shop had the exact same paint scheme as in the video above.

Germans are awesome. See the secondary air feed that can be regulated from the front?

Here is an attempt to create the typical camping ammo can stove. They guy has the right ideas but he made a huge mistake in the design.
See if you guys know your fires and can tell me what the mistake is?

Here another one making the same mistake. I mean, they will work but they missed something huge.

Not enough space to allow oxygen to gather below the fire?
I could be wrong...it's happened before and it'll happen again.

That is one thing. The other is the baffle cannot do a secondary burn because you need to get fresh superheated oxigen over there.
An easy way to do that is to make a double baffle that goes all the way around. I think I am going to try this variant with an ammo can.

I have created an schema to make this more efficient. Insulating the walls a little bit will also help to get the air superheated so one can do more with less wood.
                  I hope it makes sense.

If you somehow forced the secondary air channel with a fan or something would it possibly make the air coming out any hotter or no?

Question for those who've used these ammo can stoves. If you do the primary burn as depicted it burns to a certain temp. Once you do the secondary burn and super heat the firebox won't the ammo can degrade much quicker? I mean these cans weren't designed to withstand the temps these super heated burns can produce.

Hi temp ceramic paint will provide a level of protection. The ammo can will be for a very moderate and occasional use like hot tent camping and cooking. One could create a lining wit tile or perlite mortar. This will also work as insulation around and on the bottom. For a more permanent w/o too much weight one could go with the same gauge but in stainless. The easiest and cheapest way would be to make one wiht two or three SS food containers.
For something more permanent for the yard one could make one of heavy gauge or go with the classic cast iron but wiht the modern design.
The think is a rocket stove with a large feeder will be hard to beat whether is for cooking by itself, for heating with a secondary drum or even for baking with a low mass oven. Even a BBQ grill will be super easy and tasty, faster than charcoal and way better than propane anyway.

That is almost exactly how our woodstove works .... when it is running at optimum there is zero smoke coming from the chimney
