Ha! I might have a smoker without even knowing it...

So is that what this little do hickey is?

I knew it was for wood chips but it never actually clicked that that was a smoker until I saw that picture. (Hard to see in picture but the lid covers box to right, which sort of floats between the brickettes (sp?) and grill. I just removed the grill and lid for the picture. Looks like you put water in the box below the grate, wood chips and cover it with the lid?

So, now that we've got this settled, how do you use it?

It's a chip tray, yes. I wouldn't really call it a smoker though. This would just be used to impart a smoke flavor while you're grilling rather than a low and slow cook.
Old enough to know better, still too young to care

Looks about the same design functionally as the DIY terracotta "smoker" above, no? Heat source on bottom, container for wood chips, grill to support food above and enclosed...

That said, its been in grill for past 8 years and I never used it...

The other side of it is how low can you get your grill? Can you heat it indirectly (not a requirement, but helps)? I'd say the grill could be used as a smoker, potentially. The tricky part is how close the meat is to the flame, which is why you'd like to try to do it indirectly.

There are three burners, so in theory one of the side burners could be set to lowest setting without lighting the other two. The flame is already separated from the grill (with the brickettes/metal brickette holder) on this grill. I should look it up in the manual or see if there is a video on it, LOL...

Be careful with ribs in slow cooker, they will be really tender and fall off the bone but if you cook to long they will literally come off bonr and be mush lol

How did the ribs come out?

They came out OK but pretty much falling off the bone (OK by me as I prefer a fork and knife over hands, LOL). BBQ sauce came out really good. The apple juice made it too thin so I reduced it in a frying pan afterwards with a tablespoon of corn flour and about two tablespoons of brown sugar... Sweet with a little kick!

I don't actually cook with a lot of alcohol. Maybe a little red wine in sauce but that's about it. I did make some pork with a little Remy a few weeks ago. My brother always throws a beer over grilled steaks but I don't see the point in that.
