Kid says she wants to eat some venison the other day, no problem kiddo.

Funny you created this thread. I haven't gotten a deer in over five years. One of my co-workers in my building (not usmc) was talking to me about hunting, and he mentioned that he got two deer this year. I asked politely since he managed to get two, could he pretty pretty please throw a single Venison Steak my way??? He said sure, no problem! I have Roasts, Steaks, and Burgers, which do you want? I asked for ONE steak please!

Two weeks goes by, and I thought that he had forgotten about it...

After those two weeks (he works days, and I work a rotating schedule), he stops by in the am and hands me a triple-bagged plastic grocery bag with a LOT of Venison in it! I was like WTF?!?!
I checked the bag and found Two Roasts that were 4-5 pounds EACH. Two Frozen VERY THICK Steaks that I could easily cut into three thinner steaks, And enough ground Venison to make about 16 Burgers!!

I thanked him like ten times for giving me all of that when I just wanted one steak! He was like, no biggie, as it was just freezer-wrapped and wouldn't last much longer. You have got to love a true sportsman!

P.S. I told him to get a Foodsaver so he can save his game meat for a much longer time.

I have used some sort of vacuum sealer for some 20 years
it makes a great difference in the quality of the thawed frozen product, as the moisture is not condensed out of the product into the airspace in the wrapper

          VENISON HASH

Shoot and gut deer. If cold enuff, hang in front yard fer a few days to show off to the yer jealous neighbors.
Shave or skin deer and debone.
Put into blender, food processor, grinder, chop up with axe or just run over with lawn mower till grond up course enuff.
Fry in big iron pan in bacon grease, onions and taters till cooked.
          Eat and enjoy.
Pass gas at leisure as necessary.

If you haven't gotten a deer in a few years I have some advice:

Drive around the sticks at night with your brights on and horn blazing, a few will jump right in front every time.
