Is this necessary? I know nothing but it sounds like linseed oil is used to keep handle from drying out making head loose. Is that only reason? If so gansfors use already dry handle to address this.

Yep. Used it all day yesterday working on basecsmp. Mostly making sharp ends of posts, driving said posts into the ground, shaving dry logs for fire material and smoothing out the logs that are becoming the base for the expanded raised beds. It worked like a champ under fairly light duty.

Boiled linseed oil seasons, conditions and protects wood. Treatment protocol is every day for a week, every week for a month, every month for a year, once a year after that. I use it on every tool at my place - shovels, rakes, hoes, etc. It also prevents blisters.

Hey 24 (I hate that BTW, LOL) my only concern with the BLO is if it's treated with wax from factory does extra coats of BLO do anything? Do you need to strip the wax first and reapply?

Yes, any coating should be removed first. Most coatings are done for display/shipment purposes and not functional. Wax can be removed easily with the edge of a credit card.

So did you do it? I absolutely love that axe bro and love the idea of applying BLO but am concerned about adhesion/effectiveness if the factory handle is treated with wax.

                Hi Johanna,

To keep the axe in a better shape and keep the rust away, you may treat the axe head and the handle with some oil. In general it´s hard to say when you have to do this since this is very individual and it all depends on how long you have had your axe and how you have had it stored. For the axe head you can probably use any oil, everything from cooking oil to engine oil. The most common is probably W40 or a thin oil, like sewing machine oil. For the handle you can use teak oil or any other oil for wood – such as boiled linseed oil diluted with for example gum turpentine.

                Best regards,

                Emma Carlsson.
