I stopped by the Elite factory in Henrietta over my lunch break today. 20160914_124421.jpg
I didn't have my GPS on so I drove past it once because they don't have any signs on the outside of the building. When I came back by and turned into the parking lot I knew I was in the right place because there were lots of pickup trucks that had Elite stickers in their back windows.
The receptionist(s) at the front desk were pleasant enough, but clearly a bit suspicious of my intentions. I asked if they offer factory tours and got a bit of a deer in the headlights look. (They probably weren't that phased by my question, but given the lobby decor I couldn't resist the comparison.) I explained that a group of Rochester area members of a hunting, shooting, and outdoors internet forum (I left off the mischief and mayhem part) would be interested in taking a tour and then writing about the experience in the forum. They then asked me if I had a business card. I responded by giving them a deer in the headlights look.
They said that a tour would have to be scheduled and I said that would be perfect. Since I didn't have a business card she handed me a post-it note to write down my contact information. I wrote down my name, number, and www.avidarms.com. There is a chance they might check out the site, so everyone needs to be on their best behavior until we've arranged a tour.
So maybe just stopping in unannounced wasn't the best way to go about scheduling a tour. I got the impression the receptionists weren't quite sure what to do with me. The one girl kind of kept staring at me suspiciously, but that could just be because of my funky balding pattern. Before leaving I asked if I could get a photo of the lobby. At first they said something about no photos.... unless I wanted to take a photo of all the trophies mounted on the wall. That was what I wanted to take a photo of, so I proceeded to get a picture. I thanked them for their time and proceeded out the door.
USMC - Perhaps your boyish good looks would give you a better shot at arranging a tour. If you want to try, let me know and I could set you up with some business cards. We'll see if anyone contacts me about a tour, but I'm not holding my breath.
